Some patients are offered to wear lingual braces on the upper teeth and conventional braces on the less visible lower teeth. Normally, it takes one to four weeks after the dentist fits the braces for the patient to adjust completely. Some patients report slight alterations of speech and irritation of the tissue in the mouth. Moreover, the patient might need to learn how to swallow in a different manner. However, these effects are temporary and should disappear shortly.

After the procedure, the patients are required to avoid foods of spicy, crunchy or very hard texture. Moreover, it is necessary to maintain a very high level of dental hygiene. Therefore, wearing lingual braces will also require careful flossing and brushing. In the beginning of the treatment, this might take a significantly longer amount of time than usual. In addition, braces will need to be examined and adjusted by the dentist regularly.
