How will I know if dental implant has failed?

Q. What signs should I look out for when I get my dental implant to check to make sure it has not failed? Is there any kind of behaviour I should refrain from to make sure this does not come about?
A.

it is not always obvious if the implant has failed until it is uncovered for 2nd stage surgery, 6-8 weeks later
do not chew on the implant site, limit your smoking.

Can alcohol impare success of dental implant?

Q. From what I have read on it I know that smoking can have serious implications whether or not the implant will be sucessful. But what about alcohol consumption? Is this another activity that should be limited or altogether stopped when I first get the implant?
A. Excessive consumption of alcohol especially during the healing phase of treatment can impair healing so it is best avoided for the first few weeks.

Are there likely to be complications with dental implant?

Q. I want to get a dental implant but I am unsure whether this is such a safe option. Are dental implants prone to infection or is it relatively safe to go ahead with? What possible problems could develop?
A. it is a very safe option if carried out by a competent surgeon. there is always the possibility of complications but they are quite low, i.e if you are fit and well and a non smoker then 10yr survival rates are approx 95%

Able to have implant during ortho treatment?

Q. I am due to have damon braces fitted early in January. However a tooth that has historically been a problem (is a root filled crown premolar)is now very loose and I guess likely to be on its last legs. An implant has been mentioned before but the addditional cost has been a major con. Is it possible to have an implant during ortho treatment or would I need to sort out the errant tooth first? Many Thanks
A. It might be worth trying to remove the tooth first as it might be possible to use the space and close it with a brace rather than plaing an implant. if this isn’t possible then the implant could be placed during the brace traetment without too many problems

How many implants to secure an implant?

Q. I have a complete denture for my upper teeth but have decided that I want to get implants to help support them as they never feel completely in control according to my wishes. How many implant would I need to get and at what cost?
A. hi many thanks for your email, the best option is to have two dental implants placed with locators, these will secure your dentures firmly. the average cost of the whole treatment is usually £4000 – £5000. hope this is helpful.

What dental insurance will cover implants?

Q. Would you happen to know if there is any kind of dental insurance that will the ocver the cost of dental treatment like implants? I need one single dental implant and then a tooth attached, if that makes any difference to the insurance.
A. There isn’t many insurance companies that cover implants due to the cost but you could try Norwich Union (Avviva)
