Can I get implants to replace dentures if I have small gumline?

Q. i have no teeth on top and 2 on the bottom. i have dentures for the top but unfortunately, regardless how i have tried to get good dentures, they still do not fit and i use the glues and paste to keep it in, but that does not work either. i was told they cant fit because i have a small gumline.I constantly play with the denture and i end up with jaw and gum pain, can you tell me or suggest if dental implant is good for me and the approximate cost for the top and bottom dentures. thank you. i do need top and bottom,
A. In the upper jaw you need at least 4 implants (6 is best) to hold a new plate in place. This costs from around £6000
In the lower jaw you might be able to use just 2 implants costs start from around £3000. Andrew

Dentist says teeth need removing – would implants be a good solution?

Q. Hello Dr Moore and thank you for taking the time to read this. I am two ver sore teeth on my lower jaw that are making it almost impossible to eat and my dentist has said that they will have to be removed. Could you please advise me on what a suitable treatment would be?
A. Once the teeth have been removed you could consider dental implants, a bridge or a denture to replace the missing teeth. As a general rule implants are the best solution as they are fixed in placed without the need to trim down the adjacent teeth.

Am I too old for dental implants?

Q. I know there is an age limit for getting implants for children as they are still developing, but is there such a limit for older citizens like my self, at the ‘young’ age of 60. My teeth are in desperate need of a new lease of life.
A. Hi there.

Thanks for your question.

There’s no age limit for dental implants.  Providing that you are fit and healthy and that your mouth is in healthy condition then age itself is not a barrier to dental implant treatment.

Kind Regards

Will I need bone grafting before I can get implants?

Q. I am have been looking into the dental implant procedure and they are something that I would really like to have to fill the two gaps in my mouth where teeth are abesnt. However, I have come across things like bone grafting. How will I know if I need to have this done before I can get dental implants?
A. When you go for your consultation, your dentist will be able to assess if you require any form of grafting.

Can dental implants treat TMJ?

Q. I have a problem with TMJ and thought I would take a long shot and ask whether dental implants are able to help with this problem at all?
A. Hi.

Thanks for your question.

It’s very hard to say whether implants would help a TMJ problem or exacerbate the problem without a detailed consultation as TMJ problems can be caused by many different factors.

The doctor or dentist treating you for your TMJ should be able to advise what options there may be for you.  It’s important that if you do have any changes to your dental health that you keep the other professional involved.

Kind Regards.

Can I replace sore teeth with dental implants?

Q. Hello Dr Moore, I have two very very sore teeth that are coming to thed of thei life on my bottom left jaw. I am sick and tired of the pain this causes me as it makes it really difficult for me to eat food. I am looking into the kind of treatments that could get this sorted and I was wondering if dental implants would be best. The two teeth in question look ghastly but the pain they are causing me is the deciding factor. Could you offer any assistance please?
A. I can only say that dental implants have a very high such rate and in most cases are the best way to replace missing or failing teeth. If you’d like me to take a look please call my clinic on 01245 268 494 regards  Andrew

Is there an age limit to getting an implant?

Q. How old must you be to be able to get a dental implant. I mean, is there an age limit for the treatment? My son of 14 has had porblms with his teeth but I guess he is still growing so it many not be the best idea to get dental implants for him yet?
A. Hi thanks for your question.

This is a very difficult subject.  For teenagers it’s important that they have stopped growing as obviously the jaw grows the same as other bones in the body.  Everyone develops at different rates so it really depends on family history etc.

A chat with an experienced implantologist may be the ideal first step.

Thanks.

Is implant cause of bad taste in mouth?

Q. A week ago I got a crown attached to my dental implant and everything was going fine. Now, I have begun to get this horrible taste in my mouth and it has not gone away even through the use of mouthwash and stuff lime that. My dentist has checked it and said that everything is okay and I do not have an infection and he even did an x-ray but that showed nothing wrong. Do you know what the problem could be? There is no pain or swelling really but just the horrible taste.
A. This may be related to the type of implant used

Is there one particularly good dental implant on the market?

Q. What kinds of dental implatns are available. Is there one make that is particularly good?
A. Hi thanks for your question.

There are many different manufacturers of dental implants available on the market.

Many dentists will work with more than one manufacturer.

All dental implants used within the UK must be manufactured to specific European Guidelines, but you should be able to request information about the system that is being proposed and give you information.

Kind Regards.
