Are you able to fit dental implants under sedation?

September 28th, 2012
Q.

hello

I am looking to get implants to hold my dentures in place, but am really nervous when it comes to the dentist. How is this procedure usually performed, how invasive is it and can i have sedation to help calm my nerves?
I really, really want to have the treatment to stop my dentures from rubbing my gums raw, so i will try anything to help me have the procedure

thank you Dr Moore

Can my sister have the second stage of her implant treatment performed in the UK?

September 28th, 2012
Q.

My sister had the first part of her single tooth implant done in South Africa in July. She then left to university in the UK intending to have the second stage done in December. It has proven difficult to arrange this due to university timetabling and the festive season holidays. Could she have the second part of the implant done in the UK with a different surgeon?
It has also been very difficult to get a clear indication of the exact appointments neccesary with both doctors (sugeon and dentist) in order for us to have a clear idea of what needs to be arranged and when. Is there a step by step, appointment by appointment, guide which patients can access to avoid this confusion?

What is the best option for the permanent replacement of dentures?

September 15th, 2012
Q.

I have had a partial denture since the age of 16 – 4 front upper teeth and also have gaps on either side. This denture has sunk a little so it looks like I have fangs either side and is a little loose although that doesn’t cause any real problems. The current denture has lasted quite a long time but my dentist did some extraction work and didnt really seem interested in looking into the replacement of the denture at that time – it was mentioned but not part of the NHS treatment on offer? So now I am looking to have something more permanent and aesthetically pleasing. Can you advise what the options maybe ? I am now 53 yrs of age

Is my dentist right closing my missing tooth gaps with braces, rather than implants?

September 8th, 2012
Q.

Hello there, I would like a second opinion on my orthodontic treatment and dental implants! When I was 10 years old I extracted my first molar/left lower jaw as it was so decayed, the empty socket, overtime shrinked and caused my face to be uneven! When I was 17 years old, I had to remove the rest of the First molars (upper left/upper right/lower right) because of decay! Today I am 22 years old and I can notice that I am starting to age prematurely as the gaps from the molar extractions are starting to shrink, causing my face to get smaller, hollow eyes, “melting face ” kind of effect so I was thinking to have bone graft (as I lost serious bone) and then dental implants. But there is one small problem! I started my orthodontic treatment 1 year ago, for a severe malocclusion from where I will have to have jaw surgery to complete the treatment. At the start of the treatment I mentioned to my orthodontist I would like to keep the (molar extraction) gaps open so I can have dental implants but at my appoiment yesterday she said she wants to close the gaps and that’s what we’ve been doing all along during the treatment. I don’t feel is a good idea as my teeth and jaw are very small anyway and I’m scared this will make it even worse../Plus looking in the mirror and seeing my face changing I don’t like what I see/aging prematurely. Now, my questions are: Is it a good idea for my orthodontist to close the gaps? If it’s not, with orthodontic treatment is she able to stretch the gaps back to original shape so I can have the dental implants? If yes, will I be able to have the dental implants during the orthodontic treatment or after/during the jaw surgery? I feel very upset/disstresed/depressed….i stopped going out/have avoided most of my friends, when meeting someone new they guess my age at 29/31 as I look so old….. I need a second opnion/answer please! Thank you very much!

I have had implant for the last 7 years and suddenly they have fallen out, what could be the problem?

September 3rd, 2012
Q.

I have had implants for 6/7 years and have had regular dental visits over that period. Recently I attended a regular appointment to remove the bridges top and bottom and during the process 6 implants fell out. Is this normal – from no problems to the loss of all my upper implants? The problems had not shown up on the x-ray but it now seems that I will have to return to a denture until the bone has recovered / new bone graft and then have the entire top jaw re done. Have I had appropriate ongoing treatment. It feels to me that the implants should have a longer life and if it has been caused by infection should that not have been picked up and treated in time to avoid the loss of my entie upper jaw implants all at once.

September 3rd, 2012
Q.

i am about to have 6 of my teeth from the front of my mouth taken out and as my doctor is NHS the only treatments available to me are dentures and bridges, but i would really like a long lasting option. are dental implants able to restore 6 teeth and would these be individual? Could you also give me an estimated price for this treatment and how long it would take until I had my new teeth?
