Can you give me some advice about how to go about being put to sleep to have a tooth removed?

Q. Hello, Please can you give me some advice about how to go about being put to sleep to have a tooth removed. Since i was 7 and the dentist took my tooth out which wasnt nessacary i have the worst fear of the dentist. I need a root canel on one of teeth at the back but as my fear is so bad i have left it for 5 years, i keep getting infections and have a permant absese on my gum. I was chewing a chewing gum and half of my tooth snapped off. I braved going to the dentist today which i must add was disgusting and the dentist just pulled the equipment out of a wooden draw, no gloves on etc, and said he would remove the that was snapped. He now says i will have to have a root canel or have the tooth removed. However i cannot face going to the dentist to have this procedure unless they will put to me sleep. Please can you advise how/ if i go about getting it removed whilst being put to sleep. Thank you,
A. I\’m sorry to hear that you are anxious about dental treatment. It\’s extremely rare to have a general anaesthetic \”be put to sleep\” for dental treatment. There are however other methods of sedation that may help you deal with the anxiety. Discuss these with your dentist or ask to be referred to a dentist who has a special interest in dealing with anxious patients.
