Q. i want to get implants dr solanki 2 in fact but can you tell me how long i should expect them to last and then what would be done at this point?,

A. dental implants should last you a lifetime if you look after them they should be thought of as a permanent replacement for the root of your tooth. but in certain cases they can come out and fail and in such situations they may be replaced depending on the level of bone.

Q. For how long will a dental implant last if i choose to go with this treatment? is this longer than crowns and bridges just to get an idea of the difference?,

A. Dental implants can last for a lifetime it all depends on how you look atfer them, they are seen as a more permanent and long term solution than bridges.

how much is 4 implants and teeth whitening?

Q.hi, Im 46 and have have 4 top fron crowns since i was 16 which are constanly falling out. Last year one post broke so my dentist made a 2 crown bridge which is only secured by one tooth hence it keeps coming loose. I really would love my teeth to have a make over. How much would 4 implants cost and also teeth whitening for the rest which are otherwise fine just discoloured. Many thanks x,

A. Hello ideally you would need to see a dentist before getting an accurate price and you may not need 4 implants, as a ball park implants cost between £1800 – £2500 including the crown. Teeth whitening starts from around £300 and upwards depending on the system that you have. I hope this helps.

Is it possible to pay for implants on a monthly basis?

Q. I had an accident in august 2008 where I fell and smashed my two front teeth onto concrete, which obviously broke. I had caps put on and root canal treatment on the teeth, however a year later they started throbbing. I went back to my local NHS dentist and they said I had an infection in my gums and put me forward for a hospital referal where my gums would be opened and the infection cleaned out (acute mucosal infection). The gentlemen doing my operation said I should think about long term teeth rather than having the caps replaced as they won’t last me til I’m 35, I’m 23 at the moment. Basically he suggested implants, and now I want to know about costs, can a dentist do this and have my paying them back monthly, and after my operation how long do I leave it until I sort out the implants? I just want this sorted and finished now as it’s been going on for a year and a half. I hate the waiting game. If you could give me some advice, tips etc… Thanks

A. Hi thanks for your question.

When teeth are damaged through trauma it’s extremely difficult to say what the long term prognosis will be. In many cases root canal therapy and porcelain restorations work well so long as the underlying tooth root remains stable as root canal therapy can weaken the tooth. Crowns and veneers etc don’t last forever unfortunately and may at some point in the future require to be replaced.

It may be that if you are experiencing recurrent infection that the long term prognosis of the teeth is not good and that implants may be a solution for you. Implants vary in price from dentist to dentist but generally budget in the region of £2000 per implant as a guide. Many practices do offer payment plans such as interest free or low cost finance patient loans to help you spread the cost of the treatment.

It would probably be wise for you to have a consultation with an Implant Dentist to discuss your treatment concerns. If you’ve had x-rays taken then it’s often useful to take copies of these for your consultation.

Crown has fallen off but what can be done to fix it?

Q. A year ago I went ahead and got a dental crown but now the tooth has fallen off and there is a gap where there was not. What can I do to have this fixwed up?

A. You may need to consider either a new crown, a bridge across the gap or a dental implant to fil the space. It depends on the condition of the remaining root and adjacenet teeth. If you would like to come to my clinic I would be happy to take a look for you to help you decide

Can I replace blackened teeth with implants on NHS?

Q. My teeth are in a bad condition. They are all turning a nasty black colur and it makes me not want to smile one bit as it is the first thing people will notice about me. Do you know if I would be able to get dental implant for them on the NHS. I am sick and tired of putting up with them.

A. Unfortunately it is not possible to have dental implants on the NHS. Many practices offer finance to allow you to spread the cost.

Dental implant has broken and needs removing

Q. hello i have 3 implants in my upper jaw front 3 teeth they have been in place for about 6 years with no real problems just teeth needing tighening a few times.i had a boxing fight and broke the 3rd inplant leaving just the titanium thread in the bone the tooth come out with the top of the implant still attacthed with the screw.i have a good dentist who is trying to sort it out but is worried about not being the right amount of bone to remove it and replace the implant.have you ever seen a broken implant and removed one

A. Yes it does occur very occasionally, the remaining piece of the implant will need removing and if possible another implant placed. However often during this process the bone is lost so be prepared for bone rebuilding to supplement the area where the implant was removed.

Can a dental implant be knocked out like normal teeth?

Q. I am down to get a dental implant and due to the cost I want to make sure it is a success. I know normal teeth can be knocked out through accidents, but what I would like to know is if there is the chance that a dental implant can fall out as well? When playing football or some other sport like rugby is there the possibility?

Hi Thanks for your question.

In the same way that your natural teeth can be lost or damaged through trauma such as a sporting accident, the same is the case for dental implants.

A good quality, well constructed mouthguard can be used to minimise the risk when playing sports.

Will dental crown need to be replaced if fallen from implant?

Dental crown on implant has cracked – what to do?

Q. I have a dental crown over the dental implant I got a year ago. But for some stupid reason I have managed to crack the crown and I can feel that it is about to fall out any minute. A little bit has already come off and left a sharp edge which my tongue might get caught on. This is making me fearful to eat. I have rang my dentist and made an appointment, the earliest being saturday. Can you offer any advice about what I should do in the mean time?

A. hi many thanks for your email, the best thing is not to eat anything too hard on the tooth, the obvious treatment is going to be to have the crown on the implant replaced. hope this is helpful.
