Will dental crown need to be replaced if fallen from implant?

Q. The crown that is attached to my dental implant has fallen away. It started as a crack but now the whole thing has gone. Will I only need to get the crown replaced or may this affect the implant itself?
A. New crown, unfortunately.

Dental crown on implant has cracked – what to do?

Q. I have a dental crown over the dental implant I got a year ago. But for some stupid reason I have managed to crack the crown and I can feel that it is about to fall out any minute. A little bit has already come off and left a sharp edge which my tongue might get caught on. This is making me fearful to eat. I have rang my dentist and made an appointment, the earliest being saturday. Can you offer any advice about what I should do in the mean time?
A. hi many thanks for your email, the best thing is not to eat anything too hard on the tooth, the obvious treatment is going to be to have the crown on the implant replaced. hope this is helpful.

What are abutments as part of dental implant procedure?

Q. I am down to get dental implants but my dentist has mentioned something about abutments? At the time I got the gist of what they were but I was hoping you could refresh my memory?
A. the abutment is the bit in the middle that joins the bit in the bone (the implant) with what ever is in the mouth ie the crown

Okay for dental implants if I grind teeth?

Q. For many years I have been grinding my teeth. It took me some time to get a mouth guard and by then some of my teeth were beyond repair. I had to have 3 removed and there have been gaps in my teeth for three yeas now. I still grind my teeth and this is something I have not been able to stop. If I am to get dental implants would they be okay seen as I do grind my teeth? I will of course wear mouthguard at night.
A. It is very important that the grinding habit does not cause destructive damage to the crowns aswell as the implants. Therfore a good constructed nightguard would be required.

Why does dental implant procedure take so long?

Q. Why does the dental implant procedure take quite so long? Is it because of the healing time or some other factor?
A. hi many thanks for your email, a dental implant once placed in the jaw bone, needs to integrate(weld) to the bone, before a crown can be placed on top of it. this integration takes around 10 weeks to occur. once the implant has integrated an impression is taken of the implant and crown made which can take another 2-3 weeks. so all together the whole procedure would be 12-14 weeks long.
