Have I wasted my money on lower implants for a denture?

Q. I have lower implant for a denture. The o rings have been replaced many times because the plate gets loose and flops around. I paid thousands of dollars for this thinking I would always have a secure denture. Now I am told that these rings need to be replaced every 6 mos at a cost to me. Now therings don’t even last a month. I was also told it is what I eat that could be the problem. I chose this route of denture replacement because I wanted to resume my normal eating habits, which include corn on cob, steak, nuts, gum. Now to be told this is my problem, I should have gone the simple denture route. I have little jaw and also this is my problem. I have no problems with the abuttments, just the denture plate. Any suggestions, or did I throw 7 grand to the wind or someones vacation. I have only had this for 3 years…..
A. this does not sound normal, plenty of o-ring dentures on implants that are very successful, it sounds to me like your denture does not fit properly

How many implants are needed to support a denture?

Q. I currently have a full denture for my upper mouth – can you tell me how many implants I would need to get tot hold it in place more firm? An implant denture is a good way to make them less movable I have read so I am hoping this is achievable?
A. Hi

For the upper, I always recommend 4 as a minimum, but the more implants you have the better. There are also other factors which have to be taken into account before deciding on the number of impants. This would be discussed after clinical and radiographic examination. I hope this helps.

Does your practice offer dentures to help stabalise implants?

Q. Good day Dr Moore, does you practice have any speciality in implant dentures. I have had my dentures for 4 years and they have never felt right. Money has seen me do nothing about it even though it makes my life a misery. Thanfully, times have changed and I think I can afford what is necessary treatment for me. So, if you would be so kind could you please give me some information regarding my enquiry? Best wishes Dr Moore.
A. Hello, I’m sure we will be able to help you. We can place implants to either stabilise the dentures or sometimes keep them fixed in place. Please feel free to e-mail me on implants@advancedentalclinic.com and we can arrange a consultation so that you can decide the best option for you.

Is crown included in price of dental implant?

Q. Hello Dr Glover, could you tell me if dental crown is included in the price of a dental implant? Also, if I get a dental implant with a crown will this be any better than a crown on its own. Would the crown klast just as long?
A. Hi thanks for your question.

It really depends on where you are looking at prices as some practices quote the implants and the restorations (Crowns / Bridges) seperately which can make it difficult if you are trying to shop around.

In answer to your question about the difference between having an implant with a crown and a crown on it’s own; this really depends if the underlying tooth and root are suitable for supporting a crown.  If not then an implant would be the better option but this can only be ascertained following a detailed consultation with a dental professional.  If looked after the typical lifespan for a crown can be 10 – 15 years, but like implants they do need to be cared for.

I hope that this helps answer your question.

What would be the cost of the whole implant procedure?

Q. I now only have three teeth left in my upper mouth and I am also now going to need to get these removed. I thinkg dental implants and a denture seem like a good option. But, would you be able to give me an estimate on how much this would. That’s three teeth extracted, implants (however many) and then the complete upper denture?
A. hi many thanks for your email, the cost would break down like so::

1:extraction of the three teeth and addition of the teeth to your existing denture. approx £600 – £800

2:placement of two dental implants to retain the denture £2000 – £3000

3:new implant retained denture £1000 – £2000.

hope this is helpful

Can implants treat every tooth in the mouth?

Q. Are dental implants suitable to replace every tooth in the mouth or are there certain teeth that it does not do as good a job for, perhaps where the jawbojne is thinner or something like that, not that I know what I am talking about when it comes to this. Would jsut like the matter cleared up please!
A. hi many thanks for your email, the only place where dental implants are not suitable are when the bone is too thin or the height is not adequate to take the smallest implant available. hope this is helpful.
