Can I Be Put Under Anaesthetic During The Implant Procedure?

March 14th, 2015
Q.

I do not like going to the dentist but if I ask my dentist about implants, can she send me to the hospital to be put under anaesthetics during the implant procedure? I’m really scared of dentists. I had a bad experience 8 years ago but now I only have 7 teeth so I can’t eat properly. I’ve lost a lot of weight and am very unhappy with the way I look. Implants sound perfect but only if they put me to sleep first!

Do Mini Implants Have A Shorter Healing Time Than Regular Implants?

March 6th, 2015
Q.

Hi. I’m 60 and a saxophonist. Last year I lost one front tooth. I cracked it cleanly below the gum line and it came out over a period of months. I have had periodontal surgery but have always had good teeth with only one filling to date. My dental surgeon is suggesting a £5000 implant with bone graft, implant then crown. I’m concerned with the healing time regarding playing my instrument, and have held off. Are mini implants a quicker viable option? Thanks – Ralph.

Can I Have Bone Fragments Inserted Into My Tooth Gap In Order To Reduce Bone Shrinkage?

February 28th, 2015
Q.

Is it possible and beneficial to have bone fragments inserted into the gap left by an extracted tooth in order to reduce bone loss/re-absorbment? I am concerned that when I have the loose tooth taken out (the furthest tooth back in the lower jaw) that the forward teeth will move back and create bigger gaps to trap food, and that the bone around the tooth next to it will shrink, causing that tooth to loosen. I was hoping there was some way to stop a sort of chain reaction happening, which is what I believe has happened with other teeth I’ve had to have replace with implants.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,  thank you.  Regards,  Chriss Davies.

Is It Possible To Have My Two Front Teeth Extracted And Replaced With Straighter Implants?

February 24th, 2015
Q.

Hello, I am looking for assistance regarding my two front teeth. One of them is crowned and the other is capped. I used to wear a brace but over time they have started to go back to where they were before. I would like these two teeth extracted and two new ones put in their place, but put in straight. I have read about implants and am wondering if it is possible to extract my two front teeth and replace then straighter with implants? I’d love to know your opinion! Thank you!

I Have Fibromyalgia. Can I Have Dental Implants?

February 24th, 2015
Q.

Hello, I have fibromyalgia so I’m in a lot of pain all the time. My teeth are not in the best state because to be perfectly honest I have just let myself go. However, I am looking into dental implants to replace all the teeth in my mouth, but I’m worried that my condition means that I can’t have them. Can you please offer me some advice? I am looking for a specialist who can help me in the Manchester area, do you know of any? If not I am willing to travel for the right dentist who can help. Thank you for your time!

Can I Get A Dental Implant At The Age Of 17?

February 23rd, 2015
Q.

I wore braces for almost 3 years. I was told that one of my teeth will never form into an adult tooth meaning that I will have a gap. My dentist has partly filled the gap by essentially making the tooth next to the gap bigger because at the time they said I was too young for an implant. I am now 17 and would really like to know whether or not I would be able to get an implant in your opinion as the gap really affects my confidence, so I would love to get it sorted.

I Would Like My Dental Implant Removed. Where Can I Find A Dentist To Carry Out This Procedure?

February 14th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr. Fahey. I had a dental implant put in 3 years ago. Within 3 weeks of having the implant, I became very ill and was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have always been healthy, have no history of arthritis in the family and have been tested negative for the HLA-B27 gene. I believe 100% that the implant has caused my illness. I am allergic to metal (I am unable to wear any cheap jewellery otherwise I come out in rash). Since my illness I have learnt that a titanium implant is made up of 90% titanium and 10% is other metals (i.e. nickel). I believe I am allergic to the other metals used to strengthen the titanium implant. I am aware that not many dentists will agree that there is a connection between autoimmune diseases and implants but I do believe I have suffered due to having an allergic reaction to the implant. I am aware that a ‘bur tool’ is required to remove an implant safely. Please can you tell me if you know anyone who has this tool and can carry out this procedure for me? Many thanks for your time.

I Have A Gap Between My Implant And The Neighbouring Teeth. Will My Gum Grow To Fit The Gap?

February 11th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Fahey. I had a single tooth implanted at the top of my mouth at the front. My gum didn’t fill the space on the sides and between the implant and neighbouring teeth. There is a little gap that I’m not happy with. My dentist said that it will grow naturally to fill the gap and gave me some gel to use on the area.

It’s been 3 weeks now and it’s still the same. Will the gum really grow to fill the gap? If not then what other options do I have? Thank you very much.

Can An NHS Dentist Help Me With Bone Resorption?

February 9th, 2015
Q.

I have significant bone resorption & pain from a two year old implant. The bone wasn’t great in the beginning but it has got worse and the stump is now exposed. I have been dedicated to keeping it clean. I have another which I have had no problems with.
I do not have the funds to rectify this privately. Can I use an NHS dentist to help?
The place I used had an offer on but I think the dentist was quite inexperienced in implants. For my first implant I had additional bone grafted but on this one she said “there’s plenty of bone there” and took some from further along my jaw.
Some advice on what to do would be great and also any thoughts on the original grafting. Would I have been spared this if she had only placed some extra bone in?

Can I Have Braces With My Dental Implant?

February 3rd, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Fahey. Just a quick question. Is there any way I can have braces with my dental implant? I understand it won’t move that tooth at all but I’m worried that the braces may cause it to come loose or damage the crown which is on top of the implant. Have you known this to happen before? I would just love some general ideas before I visit my dentist for a consultation, so I know what to talk about when when I go to visit him. Thank you for your time in advance and I hope you don’t think this is a stupid question. Thanks!
