I’m considering a dental implant, what do you think?

Q. my front tooth has ben missing for the last 30 years i have a removeable denture. i am considering having an impant or crown can u let me what is best thankyou,
A. You can\’t have a crown if the tooth is missing, only an implant. the implant is a way of holding on a new crown with a metal screw

I’m eligible for a dental implant but would this help the adjacent molar?

Q. After losing a premolar some years ago the gum around the adjacent molar is receding badly, I believe, due to the gap. (I keep excellent hygiene but it\’s not helping) I\’ve been told I\’ve just enough bone to have an implant but would this help the adjacent molar? I also wanted to ask if inlays can be repaired if small decay develops on one side or should they be replaced completely?,
A. The bone /gum won\’t come back around the adjacent tooth but should stop receeding if an implant is placed in the adjacent gap. Inlays can sometimes be repaired, it depends on the extent of the decay

Can you gie me a description of each of these crowns please?

Q. i HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE OPTION OF PROCERA CERAMIC, ZIRCONIA CERAMIC OR PORCELAIN BONDED CROWNS, DESCRIPTION AND RECOMMENDATION PLEASE.,
A. Procera and Zirconia are all porcelain crowns without the metal present in a bonded crown. If aesthetics are critical then procera might be best

Should I wait for the bone to heal before I consider getting dental implants?

Q. I had my upper right 5 tooth extracted exactly a week ago (11th May). The hole in my gum still feels fresh and strange. If I wanted to consider an implant for this single tooth, would it be easier and less invasive to do it immediately before the gum and bone have healed over fully? Or should I wait for the full healing process to run its course and then consider it? Thank you for any help. (PS. I was born and grew up in Chelmsford!),
A. You should wait if you can to let the bone heal for 4 months or so. I think you might get the best result in the long term this way.

A. Just change the crowns and keep the same implants

Why is it necessary for me to have a bone graft?

Q. My dentist has informed that I am going to need to have a bone graft before I can even get implants. The idea of implants seemed bad enough but now this is worrying me even more. Why would it be necessary for me to have this? Is there no other option?,
A. If you don\’t have enough bone then this is your only option I\’m afraid. It is a highly successful treatment though and could be carried out using sedation to help you relax

What are the dental bridge options?

Q. My ex-rays show that I have some bone loss and implants would not be advisable, the only other option is bridges. I don\’t want removable bridges as I will have to have several teeth removed. Are there any other options for bridges,
A. you probably won\’t need them removed but they will probably need drilling down which isn\’t a lot better. Perhaps you should seek advice on the possibility of rebuilding the bone rather than trim possibly healthy teeth. An experienced implant dentist should be able to help you with you options.

Would you agree that the dental implants may not be appropriate?

Q. I had my two front teeth root filled and crowned 25 years ago after a childhood bicycle accident. After 18months of cortico steroid treatment for an autoimmune muscle condition one of these root fillings is now infected. I am in discussion with my dentist regarding the best course of treatment. He has recently begun implant procedures and teaches at the Birmingham Dental Hospital. He is concerned that implants would not be appropriate as it would be too difficult to line them up as I show a lot of the gum line when I smile and is leaning towards re-doing the root fillings. Would you agree that implants may not be appropriate?,
A. Implants would still work but may be a bit more difficult in your case. You maybe need to see a very experienced implant dentist who may need to graft the area either with bone or gum or both
