Some of my teeth are sensitive after building up teeth with fillings. Dentists says I need crowns but I can’t afford it. Advise?

December 27th, 2013
Q.

my teeth had worn down, due to no teeth at the back,& my teeth were very sensitive,& painful,my dentist said he would advise crowns, which i could not afford,he said he could build my teeth up which would make a difference to how they looked & this would cost me just under £1000. I had 15 teeth built up,which i was really happy with, but now after 3 months i am getting sensitivity in some, & little holes coming on the corners, but my dentist says “well the build up is only fillings”you need crowns, He took an exray & said one of the front teeth that is sensitive now really needs root canal treatment, this cost me £1,013 what can i do . I can not afford crowns ,which he says would cost me about £7000.please advise.I feel as if he is just trying to get more money out of me.

What would be the consequences of choosing dental implants at a cheaper price?

December 19th, 2013
Q.

Hello there. I have a dental crown on my front tooth, and it has now become loose. I don’t know if it’s a good idea to re-do the crown again because it may become loose again. I want to get a dental implant from the dentist for one of my tooth, but I have come across a huge range of prices that vary. I may do my implant abroad, but I don’t know if this is the correct decision. I want to know what is the quality variations, and if possible if you can send me the details of varying quality of implants that are on offer. Can you also tell me what could be the consequences of placing cheaper implants. I would appreciate your feedback very much.

I lost my teeth long ago. Will my gums be able to support dental implants?

December 6th, 2013
Q.

Hello. Thank you for accepting my question. I am sixty two years old and have had a full top denture since i was twenty five. I also have no back teeth on the bottom arch. I am interested in getting dental implants on the top arch and also for the back teeth on the bottom. I have read about the options availabale for this but don’t know, Since i lost my teeth so long ago, whether my gums will be able to actually support dental implants and what would in your opinion be the best dental treatment option for me.and do you have an indication of possible costs of getting this kind of treatment.

December 6th, 2013
Q.

Hello and thank you for allowing question. I fitted an Atlantis crown on an Astratech implant on my patient last friday. today she was in the practice and telling me that she heard a click and that the crown was moving. I checked the crown and it was not loose but very slight movement . I would like to know what has gone wrong and what to do next in such a case? can it be that the abutment is not tightened properly? will i need toget the patient back to try to unscrew the abutment for a fix? or cut the crown and unscrew the abutment? i would be grateful for some advise in this case

Is it safe to get my infected tooth removed and immediately replaced with an implant?

November 29th, 2013
Q.

My top front tooth (left central incisor) is loose due to periodontal gum disease which I have been battling for over 20 years. I currently have an infection which has caused a small lump to form on my gum and there is a slight discharge where the tooth meets the gum. This is despite 3 monthly hygienist appointments throughout the 20 years at which I am frequently told my oral hygiene is good. I have been told that the tooth cannot be saved and will have to be extracted but that a dental implant can be inserted into the socket immediately after the tooth is removed and a temporary denture or maryland bridge put in place until a permanent crown can be placed. I am told that the bone around the tooth has gone but that there is sufficient bone further up to secure the implant without a bone graft and that the infection will clear as soon as the tooth is removed. I have always been given to understand by my own dentist that the bone loss is quite severe so I was surprised to be told by the implant dentist that a bone graft would not be necessary and I am also rather worried about the presence of infection as everything I have read about implants seems to stress that the gums must be free of infection if the implant is to be successful. I would appreciate your comments as I am feeling very confused and worried about being left with an unsightly gap if the implant fails.

I am thinking about getting my top crooked teeth extracted and replaced with implants. Is there an alternative?

November 22nd, 2013
Q.

I am female in my late 50’s. My two biggish front teeth seem to slope backwards and all other front teeth seem to slope forwards so the the lateral incisors stick out badly. A few years ago an orthodontist said I would need lower (I think) jaw surgery before any braces could be fitted. I didn’t go for this. I also have ‘highly restored’ teeth as one dentist put it and have a few crowns and have had a few root treatments. Also some top teeth at the side now look dark and unattractive. My four top incisors are healthy teeth but I’m wondering about getting the top crooked teeth extracted and replaced with implants to improve my smile. Is there any alternative? It is all beginning to affect my confidence badly.

I’m getting toothache and a strange taste from my crown. What could it be?

November 17th, 2013
Q.

hi doctor,
i recently got a job,but it pays very little and is self-employed,i hardly have any money for dental treatment, and need to go to my dentist because im now getting toothache where my crown is,i hear that it can cost up to £209 for a new crown, which i cant afford, what are my options on low income,is there a way to pay in installments ?
or can i get it done free or cheaper on nhs through my dentist?
i dont know ho long i can go without getting treatment as from past experinces once you start getting a tooth ache it only gets worse and does not go away,it hurts when i eat mainly and bite down on my crown,i had this crown done about 12 years ago,and my dentist tells me he would like to remove it to see whats going on underneath,he also tells me it could be a health risk as theres a gap between my tooth and crown where food and stuff get stuck,i do floss often and use mouthwash, and often there is a strange taste in my mouth coming from that area,so im a bit worried especially now theres a slight pain in that area now.
also a few years ago i had a local anestepic to remove a walt and after i passed out twice,so when/if i have dentist treatment im also worried about the injection and if it will make me pass out again,i have had many injections prior to this but had no problems.
hope you can help and asnwer all these questions from me,
thanks in advance.

I am anxious about getting my teeth treated but I want my smile back. What are my options?

November 11th, 2013
Q.

My remaing teeth are in a terrible condition & now I’m in a better financial position I would love to have a smile back on my face. I’m frightened to death of the prospect of what I may be facing as I have suffered with anxiety for some years. My confidence is now being effected in my day to day duties & seem to be avioding verbal communication due to the visibility of my horrible teeth. Over the years I have shied away from visiting Dentists & I don’t think I have one good tooth remaining in my mouth. What options would be available to me & would I receive any support prior to any treatment being carried out ?

I was told orthodontic treatment would be free for my missing dentist but now they say it’s not. Can you advise?

November 3rd, 2013
Q.

Hello! I have a missing lateral incisor and a crown on the other lateral incisor. My canine has been scraped small, so they could try to fit one big false tooth there but I refused because it looked weird. This procedure was made in Africa in 2008. Now I have a missing tooth and a crown which is starting to smell!!!! I went to my local dentist for a check up and asked them to remove the crown. I also asked them to refer me to the orthodontist but he refused to remove the crown. The reception gave me the orthodontist’s number. I called them and asked them to give me an appointment. They said because I was 20 years old that it was not free but told them that I have a HC2 form but they said it was private appointment . A dentist told me that the procedure would be free because I had a missing tooth!!!! please help? Is this right or wrong? Will I get a free treatment because of my missing tooth? If I have to pay for braces how much will it be? By the way I have not broken or damaged the missing tooth. After my baby teeth fell out x-rays should no lateral incisor on my left side and a very small lateral incisor on my right side(which looks like a baby teeth but now has a crown).

I need dental treatment but can’t afford more than £2500. Can you advise?

October 6th, 2013
Q.

Hello doctor, I live in aberdeen. I am forty and I work in the NHS. I have a couple of irregular teeth in my lower jaw, which makes me a bit definsive and affects my confident in a negative manner. To a great extent, I am concerned about this and have had an impact on my confidence. Is there a solution for this now..or a range of options from the dental treatments? it would be really great if you could give me a bit on information about what is available out there in terms of treatment and for someone only able to afford £2500 worth of treatment. I appreciate an answer to this Thanking You
