Would dental implants be a good replacement option for me?

Q. I am now into my early 60s and even though I have kept a healthy diet not drinking red wine and other things like that my teeth are of a nasty colour. My dentist has said that this it just ageing which I think is not very good. I also have receding gums and can sometimes get bleeding gums. Would you advise me if implants would be a good replacement option?,
A. If you have bleeding gums and receding gums i think before considering dental implants you should get some advice from a specialist Periodontist. What sort of cost should I be thinking about if I want to have all of my teeth replaced with implants?

What tooth replacement is attached to the implant for the actual tooth?

Q. I understand the thing with the implant but what tooth replacement is attached to the implant for the actual tooth?,
A. The Implant crown is attached to the implant with what is called an abutment. The abutment screws into a chamber inside your implant, the crown then fits over the abutment. Hope this makes sense.

Are dental implants an option at the age of 10?

Q. My son had an accident and lost two of his frot tooth. He had some bonding but it looks not nice and he hates his smile. He is only 10 but are implants an option? If not what else can be done in your opinion?,
A. He is to young to have dental implants placed he would have to wait until he is at least 16 years plus. I would take him to a cosmetic dentist for a consultation.

Do dental implants have side effects?

Q. Hello Dr Kailesh, do you know if implant have any side effects like pain in the jaw or are they relatively safe to have? I am just a worrying nelly really.,
A. You may experience some post operative pain straight after the implants have been placed. This tends to last for a week maximum long term you shouldn,t even know they are there.

Can I get dental implants for free?

Q. do you knwo if i can get dental implant tretment for free or at lower price at a dental school. how can i find this out thank you?,
A. It is very unlikely. Implants can only be done on the NHS if you have a very good reason for them ie: a medical condition or been involved in an accident.

Are mini implants the same price as the normal dental implants?

Q. Are mini implants the same price as the normal ones? My dentist has told me to have the mini ones though I don\’t know exactly why…,
A. Yes mini implants are cheaper. You need to chat with your dentist and fully understand the procedure before going ahead. Mini implants tend to only be used in cases where there is not enough bone for a conventional implant.

Is it possible to wear a brace with an implant in place?

Q. i have made many many wrong choices when it came to fixing one crooked tooth from having my dentist pulled it out to wearing braces only on top before my implant. now i have an overbite that i just can\’t stand…no one has given me good advice thru the whole process. now i am considering wearing braces again which i should\’ve done in the first place instead of pulling out a perfectly good tooth! is that possible with the implant already in place? or is it even worth it to fix the front bite that is slightly off? it\’s been 5 years and i\’m still struggling with it. please help!,

My daughter has irregular teeth, what can I do?

Q. Hi Doctor, Greetings of the day, My 9 year old daughter got irregular teeth at her upper and lower jaw(2 each). what is the best age to do treatment, which is the best treatment. Thank you,
A. She can start orthodontic treatment approximately from the age of 12. The waiting lists are long so i would seek some advise from your dentist in the near future.

How are dental implants able to help to support dentures?

Q. How are dental implants able to help to support dentures please can you tell me Dr Solanki?,
A. Once the implants are inserted, they have a magnet attached to them, inside your denture a housing is fitting of which clips on to the magnet this then makes your denture very secure.
