I Have A Very Sensitive Gag Reflex. Can I Be Put To Sleep During Implant Treatment?

March 8th, 2015
Q.

Hi! I have 3 missing teeth, on my bottom jaw. They’re not causing me any problems as such but I feel like I would like to have them replacing as I can feel my jaw starting to sag. The only problem is that I have a VERY sensitive gag reflex, which is why my teeth were in such a state to begin with. My dentist couldn’t go near my mouth without me dry heaving and then being sick! I was wondering if I was to opt for this if I could be put to sleep to receive the treatment? Even at the check-up? Consultation? Honestly, it’s that bad and I’m at my wits end! Thanks.

Is It Common For Healing Screws To Come Loose?

March 8th, 2015
Q.

H Dr. Moore, I have a question for you. My partner has just had healing screws fitted as he is having four implants placed. He is waiting to have final treatment in two weeks time when the gums heal. He was biting into a sandwich and felt that one of the healing screws had come loose. Is this common, and can it be replaced? Does it mean that the gum has rejected it? Will this delay the final treatment? He had the implants put in 9 months ago. Thanks in advance.

What Kind Of Long-Term Stability Do Implants Offer Compared To Other Missing Teeth Treatments?

March 7th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Glover. I’d really like to know what kind of long term stability implants offer compared to other treatments for missing teeth? I had a nasty accident recently which left me feeling very worse for wear but I won’t go into much detail. It has left me with a big, unsightly gap in my teeth which I feel very self-conscious over it and I don’t like to smile any more as it makes me look like a football hooligan. Is it a painful procedure? Thank you for helping me with this.

Do Mini Implants Have A Shorter Healing Time Than Regular Implants?

March 6th, 2015
Q.

Hi. I’m 60 and a saxophonist. Last year I lost one front tooth. I cracked it cleanly below the gum line and it came out over a period of months. I have had periodontal surgery but have always had good teeth with only one filling to date. My dental surgeon is suggesting a £5000 implant with bone graft, implant then crown. I’m concerned with the healing time regarding playing my instrument, and have held off. Are mini implants a quicker viable option? Thanks – Ralph.

How Much Does Implant Treatment Cost, And Am I Suitable?

February 28th, 2015
Q.

Dear Dr Glover. I had dental surgery 13 years ago to uncover both my adult canine teeth (kissing canines) in the roof of my palette. It took 6 years to drag the teeth down into place with the use of a brace. My canine teeth were then bonded to fill in the gaps to give a better smile. That was 8 years ago. Now it is being suggested that the teeth do not have a good shelf life and implants would be the way forward. What cost do implants come in at for two canine teeth such as mine? And is there any criteria I must meet to be able to have them? I have been told that I have gum disease which currently affects those two teeth. Many thanks, Caroline.

My Dental Implant Was Infected Almost Immediately. What Should My Dentist Be Doing Next?

February 28th, 2015
Q.

My dental implant was infected almost immediately, and I have had 3 courses of antibiotics over the last 3 months. What should my dentist be doing? I have lost confidence in them as last week I went to have the ‘tooth’ part fitted, only to be told that the infection meant that there was not enough bone and I should come back this week for him to investigate. I have had no x-rays since the implant was first put in. What do you think they should do?

Can I Have Bone Fragments Inserted Into My Tooth Gap In Order To Reduce Bone Shrinkage?

February 28th, 2015
Q.

Is it possible and beneficial to have bone fragments inserted into the gap left by an extracted tooth in order to reduce bone loss/re-absorbment? I am concerned that when I have the loose tooth taken out (the furthest tooth back in the lower jaw) that the forward teeth will move back and create bigger gaps to trap food, and that the bone around the tooth next to it will shrink, causing that tooth to loosen. I was hoping there was some way to stop a sort of chain reaction happening, which is what I believe has happened with other teeth I’ve had to have replace with implants.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,  thank you.  Regards,  Chriss Davies.

February 24th, 2015

Hi. I have three missing teeth at the top left hand side of my mouth. I’d really like dental implants to replace the missing teeth, but how much would it cost for three? The teeth are all next to each other. Thanks in advance!

Why Do My Implants Keep Failing?

February 24th, 2015
Q.

Hello, please help me with my problem. I got implants fitted 3 years ago. Since then they have continuously failed. Is there any point in me keeping them if they’re just going to keep failing? My dentist can’t understand why it keeps happening. Please let me know what you think!
