Q. What material is used to create the implants? s it porcelain like you can get with veneers or even plastic. A speedy answer would be highly though of. Regards, Brian.,
A. Dear Brian. Thanks for your question.The Implants are made up of 3 main components.  The implant which is placed into the bone is made of a titanium alloy as this is biocompatible with the bodies own tissues and is used widely in various surgical medical procedures.The Abutment (the post that supports the finished restoration on the implant) This may be made of a titanium allow or can sometimes be porcelain based depending on the treatment needs.The final part is the finished restoration (crown or bridge) this is generally made of porcelain but may be made of composite (plastic) materials.  It really depends on the treatment needs but your treatment provider should be able to give you all this information.I hope that this helps.Regards George Glover.

Q. When I was younger I had a root canal that went wrong and my front tooth has to be removed. The dentist did his best to save it but said it was too far gone and that tooth needed to be removed. I am now with a fake tooth that looks and feels horrible and makes me looks stupid. What can I do? Can I get implants?,
A. If the bone is healthy then an implant would be a good solution for you youwill need an assessment and x ray to find out, ask your dentist or if you\\\’re in my area I would be happy to take a look for you

Q. do you know if i can get implants if i have already got dentures? how would this work dr solanki?,
A. To give you advice i would really need to see you but it is entirely possible i see many patients with dentures that we stabilise with dental implants making their dentures very stable.

A. dental implants should last you a lifetime if you look after them they should be thought of as a permanent replacement for the root of your tooth. but in certain cases they can come out and fail and in such situations they may be replaced depending on the level of bone.

Q. For how long will a dental implant last if i choose to go with this treatment? is this longer than crowns and bridges just to get an idea of the difference?,
A. Dental implants can last for a lifetime it all depends on how you look atfer them, they are seen as a more permanent and long term solution than bridges.

Q.hi, Im 46 and have have 4 top fron crowns since i was 16 which are constanly falling out. Last year one post broke so my dentist made a 2 crown bridge which is only secured by one tooth hence it keeps coming loose. I really would love my teeth to have a make over. How much would 4 implants cost and also teeth whitening for the rest which are otherwise fine just discoloured. Many thanks x,
A. Hello ideally you would need to see a dentist before getting an accurate price and you may not need 4 implants, as a ball park implants cost between £1800 – £2500  including the crown. Teeth whitening starts from around £300 and upwards depending on the system that you have. I hope this helps.

Q. I had an accident in august 2008 where I fell and smashed my two front teeth onto concrete, which obviously broke. I had caps put on and root canal treatment on the teeth, however a year later they started throbbing. I went back to my local NHS dentist and they said I had an infection in my gums and put me forward for a hospital referal where my gums would be opened and the infection cleaned out (acute mucosal infection). The gentlemen doing my operation said I should think about long term teeth rather than having the caps replaced as they won’t last me til I’m 35, I’m 23 at the moment. Basically he suggested implants, and now I want to know about costs, can a dentist do this and have my paying them back monthly, and after my operation how long do I leave it until I sort out the implants? I just want this sorted and finished now as it’s been going on for a year and a half. I hate the waiting game. If you could give me some advice, tips etc… Thanks
A. Hi thanks for your question.

When teeth are damaged through trauma it’s extremely difficult to say what the long term prognosis will be.  In many cases root canal therapy and porcelain restorations work well so long as the underlying tooth root remains stable as root canal therapy can weaken the tooth.  Crowns and veneers etc don’t last forever unfortunately and may at some point in the future require to be replaced.

It may be that if you are experiencing recurrent infection that the long term prognosis of the teeth is not good and that implants may be a solution for you.  Implants vary in price from dentist to dentist but generally budget in the region of £2000 per implant as a guide.  Many practices do offer payment plans such as interest free or low cost finance patient loans to help you spread the cost of the treatment.

It would probably be wise for you to have a consultation with an Implant Dentist to discuss your treatment concerns.  If you’ve had x-rays taken then it’s often useful to take copies of these for your consultation.

Q. Dear Dr Moore I have had a bridge fitted at the front as my two front teeth were knocked and became very unstable. I am considering implants but I’m not sure if that can happen now I have had a bridge . What is the procedure ? What happens to the two teeth that have been filed down to support the bridge .Plus what are the cost implecations , how long does it last . Apologies for al of the questions
A. The implants are still possible if there is still enough bone, verifiable with xrays or a ct scan. The bridge will normally be replaced and the implants fitted followed by the fitting of a temporary bridge. The 2 teeth adjacent to the gap will be crowned at the end of treatment.

Q. Since 12 years old I have had a denture for my top teeth due to a bad accident then. I am now in my 40s and have wanted implants ever since I heard about them. It is four teeth at the front of my moutht that are missing so can you tel me what would be the most suitable treatment for me along the lines of an implant brige or soemthing. Don’t really want dentures again.
A. Hi thanks for your question.

It’s very difficult to advise on treatment without having a full consultation.

During a consultation the dentist would discuss what your hopes are for any potential treatment and go through what treatment options may be available to you.  They will normally take some x-rays to assess the amount of bone available for placing the implants.

Q. I have the choice for veneers or implant according to my dentist. Which of these treatments would you advise for a tooth that is decayed to a very bad colour? A quick reply would be appreciated.
A. A veneer will cover the discoloured tooth but may not look as good as removing the tooth and using an implant supported crown. It depends on the degree of discolouration and the condition of the remaining tooth.
