How do dentists assess whether you need bone grafting?

Q. Does the dentist take x-rays or something to find out whether a patient needs bone grafing or not? If there is not enough bone support available then will I not be able to get imaplnts? Are there any suitable alternatives?
A. If bone volume is reduced this can be supplemented with either your own bone taken from the lower jaw usually, or artificial bone usually of animal origin. If this isn’t acceptable to you then you might want to consider a conventional fixed bridge please feel free to contact me on implant@advancedentalclinic.com if you need further advice – andrew
