How long are dental implants supposed to last?

Q. What is the expected life time of a dental implant? Are there certain things you should look out for to make sure the implant is holding up well?
A. An implant should last at least 10 years, and depending on how well its looked after could last 40 years as implants placed in the sixties are still going strong today. This is dependent on bone quality, general health and home/professinal maintenance.
