Is it best to do bong grafting and implant at seperate times?

Q. Would you please be able to tell me what the common practice is for the following? I need grafting and am still to get the tooth removed. I was wondering if this is better done all as one, or whether the dentist will give the area time to heal after the tooth is extracted before before doing the grafting?
A. Hi, many thanks for your enquiry. Teh first thing to assess is whether the area around the tooth to be extracted is infected. If this is the case then some healing time before the graft is placed is usually indicated.

If the area is not infected then the extract and the graft can be done simutaneously. This does sometimes however require a second smaller graft procedure with the placement of the dental implant.

If the grafting to be done is only localised then the graft and implant can be placed at the same time both at the time of extraction or when the area has healed.

As you can see there are many options on how to approach the case and many variables to consider. Also, different implant surgeons will have different protocols dependant on there teaching and also experiance levels.

hope this is helpful.
