Q. After tooth extraction, before the implant is inserted, are you given a temporary tooth or something to hid the area where there is a missing tooth. I obivously ask because of aesthetic reasons as the tooth in question is right at the front of my mouth and would be easily noticeable.

If the patient wishes this, then they can get something as a temporary.
