I’ve Cracked My Dental Crown, What Should I Do?

Q.
Hello Dr Moore.

I had a crown placed over a dental implant about 3 years ago, but now it’s cracked! It’s definitely going to fall out, it doesn’t feel secure at all now, and parts of it have started to come off. Obviously I can’t go on like this because I don’t want to cut my tongue or anything and it’s difficult to eat now. I’ve got an appointment with my dentist next Monday, but what should I do between then and now? And what will he say? Thank you.

A.
Hello, thank you for your question. The best thing to do between now and Monday is to not eat anything that’s too hard. I think the most likely treatment will be a replacement crown on the implant. If you’re worried about what to eat, maybe call your dentist and see what he can suggest, he’s bound to have come across this before and might be able to give you a clue about what’s safe to eat. Hope this is helpful.
