I’ve Opted For An Implant Retained Denture, But I’m Really Struggling. I’m Gagging All The Time. What Do You Think My Dentist Will Say?

Q.
Hi Nick. I opted for the implant retained denture and knew it was going to take a while for me to get used to it. But I’m really struggling, it’s been 2 weeks and I feel like I’m gagging all the time, especially when I eat. It’s so painful and my gums are bleeding slightly. I’m due to see my dentist next week but would love a bit of advice before I go. What do you think he’s going to say? I don’t want to go another 5 months without teeth! Thanks for your time.
A.
Hi. Are you just at the denture stage now? If so things will improve once the implants are connected to the denture. 5 months seems like a long time to wait. Hopefully your dentist can sort these problems out for you. It’s difficult for me to suggest something as I am not familiar with your X-rays. Don’t forget to mention the bleeding gums when you go, it’s important to get that sorted, your dentist should provide you with mouthwash depending or antibiotics depending on the severity. I hope it works out for you, best wishes, Dr Fahey.
