Have I had dentures for too long to be able to get implants?

February 4th, 2012
Q.
I was unlucky enough to think I was going under anesthetic to have loads of fillings when I was fifteen. To my horror my parents had been convinced that I needed all my upper teeth removed, which is what I woke to find had happened. so I have had a full denture since then and am now 50! still have a terrible fear of dentists and have not seen one for twenty years through shame as well as fear. have I been with dentures for too long to be able to have implants? or at least implants to secure a better denture? HELP!!!!!!,

Is there some way loose denture can be made stable enough to eat with properly?

January 16th, 2012
Q.
Hi, I have had a top plate denture for some years and a bridge across the front 7 or 8 teeth on the lower gum. However, for some years I have only had 2 or 3 of my original teeth left in place. Eventually the lower gum became so worn that part of the root became visible, and needless to say I picked up infection after infection. In January of this year following another infection, I visited my dentist who told me I would need to have the bridge and remaining teeth removed and a full set of dentures made. I expressed my concern around being able to keep the lower denture in place, but despite this my dentist assured me that I would have nothing to worry about. I needed him to reassure me several times before agreeing to the treatment. This work has now been done, and guess what, no matter what denture adhesive I use, the lower denture comes out every time I eat. Clearly my gums have worn away over the years (I am 59 years old), but cannot keep going with a denture that continually becomes loose after 2 or 3 hours or every time I eat. Also, I find it extremely difficult to get used to this lower denture as my mouth always feels full of a foreign object. I would like to know if there is some way to either fix my lower dentures in a way that makes them stable enough to eat food, or some other alternative. I realise you would probably need to examine my mouth, but can tell you now that much of my gums have worn away over the years. Is there any possibility at all that something could be done? Many thanks,

I cannot afford implants at present. Will bone graft last for a while?

January 14th, 2012
Q.
I had a decayed upper back molar removed this past July 2010. The oral surgeon has preped it with bone graft and now wants to do the implant this week with the sinus lift. (6 mos later). My dilemma is I can not afftord $ 4,000 right now. Can i wait a year or two then get the implant then? My bone graft turns into bone so it should be OK., right?,

December 3rd, 2011
Q.
following years of poor dental hygiene I now find myself (regrettably) losing my teeth, my gums have receded and am told of ‘poor bone quality’ by my dentist. Is there any hope for me?? I’m becoming a tad depressed about this,

Can you give me an estimate for a full fixed restoration to replace my dentures?

October 21st, 2011
Q.
As a result of me having dentures for the past 30 years, I feel that this has seriously effected my confidence in the way in which I converse with people in general. Due to this, I would appreciate if you could advise me of an estimate in respect to a full fixed restoration.,

Would I have to get my four teeth replaced with implants at once, or can I get one done and the others down the line?

October 3rd, 2011
Q.
Dear Dr Solanki, I have root canals in four of my front teeth, one of which is causing problems and needs to be removed. I have been advised by my dentist that the other three teeth will need to come out eventually but should last another five years or so before this is necessary. I am being advised to get all four teeth extracted and the implants put in place all at once but to me this seems a bit extreme. Is this method preferable rather than just having one implant inserted then having the neighbouring teeth done a few years down the line? Obviously I want to hold on to my natural teeth for as long as possible and am worried about the cost of four implants as opposed to just one. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks ,

Should I get an implant or another bridge when my current one fails?

October 2nd, 2011
Q.
when my dental bridgefails would you then say i just go for another one or should i get implants? what would the difference in price be? There is one missing tooth, so would the bone have receeded or whatever it does? Still a few years left in it but it\’s so costly i need to prepare for the future.,
