Can I Have Bone Fragments Inserted Into My Tooth Gap In Order To Reduce Bone Shrinkage?

February 28th, 2015
Q.

Is it possible and beneficial to have bone fragments inserted into the gap left by an extracted tooth in order to reduce bone loss/re-absorbment? I am concerned that when I have the loose tooth taken out (the furthest tooth back in the lower jaw) that the forward teeth will move back and create bigger gaps to trap food, and that the bone around the tooth next to it will shrink, causing that tooth to loosen. I was hoping there was some way to stop a sort of chain reaction happening, which is what I believe has happened with other teeth I’ve had to have replace with implants.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,  thank you.  Regards,  Chriss Davies.

I lost my teeth long ago. Will my gums be able to support dental implants?

December 6th, 2013
Q.

Hello. Thank you for accepting my question. I am sixty two years old and have had a full top denture since i was twenty five. I also have no back teeth on the bottom arch. I am interested in getting dental implants on the top arch and also for the back teeth on the bottom. I have read about the options availabale for this but don’t know, Since i lost my teeth so long ago, whether my gums will be able to actually support dental implants and what would in your opinion be the best dental treatment option for me.and do you have an indication of possible costs of getting this kind of treatment.

Is it safe to get my infected tooth removed and immediately replaced with an implant?

November 29th, 2013
Q.

My top front tooth (left central incisor) is loose due to periodontal gum disease which I have been battling for over 20 years. I currently have an infection which has caused a small lump to form on my gum and there is a slight discharge where the tooth meets the gum. This is despite 3 monthly hygienist appointments throughout the 20 years at which I am frequently told my oral hygiene is good. I have been told that the tooth cannot be saved and will have to be extracted but that a dental implant can be inserted into the socket immediately after the tooth is removed and a temporary denture or maryland bridge put in place until a permanent crown can be placed. I am told that the bone around the tooth has gone but that there is sufficient bone further up to secure the implant without a bone graft and that the infection will clear as soon as the tooth is removed. I have always been given to understand by my own dentist that the bone loss is quite severe so I was surprised to be told by the implant dentist that a bone graft would not be necessary and I am also rather worried about the presence of infection as everything I have read about implants seems to stress that the gums must be free of infection if the implant is to be successful. I would appreciate your comments as I am feeling very confused and worried about being left with an unsightly gap if the implant fails.

Is it best to remove tooth affected by periodontal pockets and get an implant?

November 22nd, 2013
Q.

Hi – I had a upper molar extracted. After this, Bone absorbsion must have taken place, leaving a slight depression, at the same time, a upper wisdom tooth then grew out next to the gap and closed the gap at a slight angle. However, periodontal pockets opened up at the same time, leading to periodontal disease and I now I have a periodontal pocket of over 7mm in the Wisdom tooth.

On a recent panoramic x-ray there is clear bone loss.
I had a deep root scaling to counter the disease, and maintain excellent dental hygiene, but I am again getting periodontal infections in this tooth.

I am utterly fed up with it, so I would like this wisdom tooth extracted and a implant put in it’s place.

I also have read a lot about the gram negative periodontal bacteria which have negative effects on peoples general health. I would like to think that if the tooth is extracted and a implant put in that would be the end of the disease in the site, as I read there is no periodontal ligament with a implant. Would this be the case?

I realise I would likely need a sinus lift and perhaps a bone graft also to build up the bone.

How would you proceed in this sort of case?

If the tooth is extracted would you wait for 2 months for the periodontal bacteria to be eliminated from the site by a patients immune response? Is it better to get the tooth extracted and wait 2 months before I see a implant specialist?

What sort of outcome can people with periodontal disease I hope for with implants?

Is it possible to do a bone graft around Bicon implant where there is bone loss?

November 11th, 2013
Q.

i am 32 and a non smoker i had a bi con dental implant on my front tooth 8 years ago during a check up and x rays it was discovered that the bone around the implant was deteriorating due to an infection. The dentist decided that due to the amount of bone loss more than half the implant would have to come out the crown was taken out but the implant remained solid in the remaining bone. Healing can placed on implant. Can new bone be grafted around the implant or does it have to be removed? what are my options ? Thanks

Is there any alternative to invasive treatments I have been recommended for bone loss?

March 31st, 2012
Q.
Hello Dr Moore. I thank you for taking time to consider my enquiry. I was reffered to a periodontist by my dentist as I told that I have quit a bit of bone loss. During my consultation I was told that for being 30 years old 30% bone loss is bad also considering I have short roots, I am at loss for losing my teeth prematurely. I was told I will need to have a bone graft placed as well as some proteins that will help in regeneration. Are there any other alternatives that are not as invasive and costly but that have similar results? Thank you for your time.,

Will I be able to get implants for two teeth without bone transplantation?

January 23rd, 2012
Q.
I am interested in Implants to replace a few missing teeth. I also have a large number of teeth that are in quite bad condition, these teeth almost certainly need removing so I was wondering about replacing these teeth with Implants too. As I have only two teeth that have been removed, is it likely that my bone loss will be low and so make it possible for implant techniques without resorting to bone transplantation. I know it would be hard for you to make a judgement without a proper consultation but ws wondering if, in essence, it sounded likely. Thank you,,
