Noticed that implants have some sensitivity. Is this to do with whitening agent?

Q. I have had 3 implants for a out 6 years. I notice recently that the implants have some sensitivity. Does this have to do with using sensitivity toothpaste with whitening agent?,

The whole of my lower jaw has been in pain since the implant, why is this?

Q. I had an implant two weeks ago which was not too painful but since then my whole lower jaw on one side has hurt and co-codamol only just keep it at bay. The implant surgeon has taken the stitches out and suggested waiting another 3 weeks to see if the pain subsides. He has done x rays to check all seems OK,
A. maybe the implant is failing, hope it turns out alright

Do dental implants have side effects?

Q. Hello Dr Kailesh, do you know if implant have any side effects like pain in the jaw or are they relatively safe to have? I am just a worrying nelly really.,
A. You may experience some post operative pain straight after the implants have been placed. This tends to last for a week maximum long term you shouldn,t even know they are there.

I’m worried about the pain I might receive before/after the impants have been placed, any advice?

Q. Hi, i\’ve been recommended for dental implants but I\’m really worried about the pain before/after, can you give me an idea what it might be like? Thanks,
A. There will be no pain whilst the Implants are being placed, we use a very strong local anaesthetic. After the procedure you may exprience some discomfort and swelling every person\’s body responds differently to surgery you will be given painkiller and atibiotics after the procedure. If you are anxious you can be given some sedation this relaxes you through out the whole procedure.

My implant hurts but the x-ray shows everything is fine, what could be wrong?

Q. I had a two-one implant about 7 months ago. It hurts when pressure is applied to it and continuously throbs. The surgeon says the X-ray shows everything to be perfect. What may be wrong?,
A. If hurts when pressure is put on to it, get your dentist to check the bite,If you feel your biting on that tooth only then it does need to be adjusted otherwise this could lead to the impalant failing.

Is there something wrong with the area where I received the implant or is it just healing?

Q. I recently had two implants put in at the same time my surgeon removed a decayed tooth and done some bone grafting. Both of these implants failed, but I am still really sore around this area. I had the implants put in 6 weeks ago, then one taken out two weeks ago, then the other 10 days ago. Yesterday a small piece of bone came out of the site area and bled a tiny bit, this morning the site felt ok, but later in the day it is very sore again. Do you think that everything is still healing or do you think there is a problem. The soresness comes and goes and does not keep me awake at night. Thank you,
A. you should go back and see the surgeon if you have any concerns

Is it normal to experience swelling after receiving dental implants?

Q. i had some dental implants put in last week ready for new teeth on my bottom jaw. i\’m suffering from severe pain from them at the moment and the areas seem badly swollen when i had them done. is this normal? thanks for the help.,
A. It is quite normal to experiance discomfort and swelling after implant placement for up to about a week, after a week it should be starting to improve getting better each day. I would contact the surgeon who placed the implants and get him to take a look just to rule out any infection.

I am experiencing quite severe pain after implants? How long will this last?

Q. hello ive just had two implants placed in my upper jaw on thursday, when they were first placed they felt fine and comfortable. but the following day i woke up with severe pain on the whole of my left face, is this normal? ive taken several painkillers which ease the pain for 10minutes or so and then comes back. please could you advise and how long will this pain last for thanks,
A. It is normal to have discomfort up to a week after placement your dentist should of provided you with some anti-inflammatory painkillers to help reduce this. If you are unsure conatct your dentist to put your mind at rest.
