Q.
I had a dental implant following root canal treatment on my front tooth which went wrong. The area under my nose remained sore even afer a few years of having the implant. I kept returning to the implant centre and was told everything was okay, however a few months ago I again returned and was informed that I would need an artificial bone graft. This was carried out 3 months ago. I have more pain than before now and the gum line has receeded showing some of the metal of the implant. It is uncomfortable and sore. My dentist said to see her again in 6 weeks and she would consider sending me to the hospital (which I requested). I’m concerned about returning to the implant centre as I have been going for around 2.5 years and the problem has just worsened. I have three questions really. If there is damage to the area can it be repaired? – I can’t sleep at night sometimes because I am worried that it will deteriorate so badly that I lose all my top teeth and the bone too. The second question is who can I turn to for advice as soon as possible to stop any further problems? My last question is – could it be just normal to be experiencing such discomfort – should I just wait longer for it to heal. Many thanks for your time ,

Hi. I had an upper lateral incisor replaced by an immediate implant a year ago, and up until now have had absolutely no problems with it. However, I have recently noticed that the area above the implant is sore – by this, I mean when I apply makeup, or facial cream, I notice slight discomfort over the area, like it is bruised. I then noticed that if I there was any slight pressure on the gum above the implant, it would bleed down around the tooth. I have no other areas of gum bleeding and am very careful with my gum care (flossing, interdental brushes etc.) I also use a water pik, and have noticed it is very sore when it washes around the implant. However, the gum does not look inflamed, and the implant is still rock solid. I am now aware of a dull ache occasionally. Do I need to go back to see my implant dentist? Thank you.,

Hi I have just had two implants placed in UL2 and UR1. UL1 is also missing and they are going to place a bridge. I damaged the teeth in a sporting accident many years ago and I am now getting them replaced. It is the third day after the implants and my mouth is very sore and swollen. I even have a black eye! During the procedure I was constantly feeling it and needed roughly 20 injections! Is this the reason I am so swollen and in a lot of pain? Or could something be wrong? I am also concerned about the interim period before my next appointment in Feb. I am a teacher and obviously need front teeth to do my job. When will I be able to wear the denture that has been made at the moment it feels like never. Also when I have the Uncover procedure there is a further 6-8 weeks before the bridge is placed. How can I wear my denture with the metal posts in place and will the procedure leave me sore and unable to waer it like the first one. This is really worrying me as I cant take that amount of time off! Sorry about the barrage of questions but I am really anxious. Many thanks,
