Will My Father’s Dental Implants Look Natural?

March 16th, 2015
Q.

Hello Dr Glover. I’ve recently paid for my father to get some of his teeth sorted and he’s due to have three dental implants fitted but he’s starting to have second thoughts. Is there any way his dentist can manage to calm him down before he has them? Will they match up correctly and look natural? He’s worried about looking stupid. I hope you can provide us with information on this. It would really be helping us out. Thanks.

Can I Be Put Under Anaesthetic During The Implant Procedure?

March 14th, 2015
Q.

I do not like going to the dentist but if I ask my dentist about implants, can she send me to the hospital to be put under anaesthetics during the implant procedure? I’m really scared of dentists. I had a bad experience 8 years ago but now I only have 7 teeth so I can’t eat properly. I’ve lost a lot of weight and am very unhappy with the way I look. Implants sound perfect but only if they put me to sleep first!

My CEREC Veneer Fell Out And Broke My Original Tooth. Should I Get A Dental Implant Or A Bridge?

March 14th, 2015
Q.

Hi there, was looking for some kind of advice from your good self.
I have an existing dental implant where my front tooth should be – I have had this for nearly 8 years. The next tooth to that one had a CEREC veneer placed on on it due to a little discolouration  following root canal treatment when I was a teenager. The CEREC veneer unfortunately fell out after 8 months and it snapped my own original tooth which I was very upset about. Do you think it would be wise now to get a dental implant or would a bridge be better? Many thanks, Leeann.

I Have A Very Sensitive Gag Reflex. Can I Be Put To Sleep During Implant Treatment?

March 8th, 2015
Q.

Hi! I have 3 missing teeth, on my bottom jaw. They’re not causing me any problems as such but I feel like I would like to have them replacing as I can feel my jaw starting to sag. The only problem is that I have a VERY sensitive gag reflex, which is why my teeth were in such a state to begin with. My dentist couldn’t go near my mouth without me dry heaving and then being sick! I was wondering if I was to opt for this if I could be put to sleep to receive the treatment? Even at the check-up? Consultation? Honestly, it’s that bad and I’m at my wits end! Thanks.

Is It Possible To Have My Two Front Teeth Extracted And Replaced With Straighter Implants?

February 24th, 2015
Q.

Hello, I am looking for assistance regarding my two front teeth. One of them is crowned and the other is capped. I used to wear a brace but over time they have started to go back to where they were before. I would like these two teeth extracted and two new ones put in their place, but put in straight. I have read about implants and am wondering if it is possible to extract my two front teeth and replace then straighter with implants? I’d love to know your opinion! Thank you!

Bridge Or Implants – Which Would Be Best For Elongated Upper Teeth With Receding Gums?

February 14th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr. Moore. I have receding gums, but I see a hygienist regularly and have had a very expensive series of periodontal treatments. My 6 front upper teeth are elongated with obvious receding gums, and are held together by a brace on the back that maintains their awful position- would you recommend a bridge or implants? Could you also advise on me on the cost? My dentist is only interested in implants which worries me because of the pain, cost and whether I have enough bone to hold them. I am 50 and I am a smoker (I am trying to stop). I would be very grateful for your advice, thank you.

I Have A Gap Between My Implant And The Neighbouring Teeth. Will My Gum Grow To Fit The Gap?

February 11th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Fahey. I had a single tooth implanted at the top of my mouth at the front. My gum didn’t fill the space on the sides and between the implant and neighbouring teeth. There is a little gap that I’m not happy with. My dentist said that it will grow naturally to fill the gap and gave me some gel to use on the area.

It’s been 3 weeks now and it’s still the same. Will the gum really grow to fill the gap? If not then what other options do I have? Thank you very much.

I Have A Loose Implant And My Dentist Is Away. Should I Wait For Him To Return Or See Another Dentist Immediately?

February 7th, 2015
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I had an implant fitted 4 years ago and it was fine until recently. However the implant now is very wobbly and I can’t eat or chew anything. Unfortunately my implant dentist is out of town until late next week. Is it okay to wait until he returns or should I see any other dentist immediately?
Please note: I had a routine dental checkup with another dentist last week and there was no problem at all.
Please give me some advice regarding the causes of the loose implant. Thank you.

I Have Little Money For Implants, Why Won’t My Dentist Refer Me? Should I Seek A Second Opinion?

September 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Fahey. My dentist will not refer me to kings college for referral for implants. My dentures make me gag. I can’t really afford to pay but could pay a little towards them. Please help me as I am desperate walking around with no teeth and I feel ashamed and I just cover my mouth up when talking to anyone. When I asked for a referral the first time, I only had a few teeth were missing but my dentist still wouldn’t. Can you have a second opinion when it comes to a dentist? Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

Gum Disease Has Ruined My Mouth, Should I Have A Plate Or Dental Implants?

May 1st, 2014
Q.

Over twenty years ago I had bridges on my top teeth on the left and right sides. I developed gum disease around three years ago under the bridge and had to have the middle part of the bridge removed. I still have the bridge attached to the teeth at either side and a gap in the middle where this tooth was removed. The gum disease has also affected where the bridged part remains and the gum has receded so much that there is 4-5mm of the the original tooth that they were attached to showing, these are painful to touch and a black colour. What treatment would be the best way forward as one of the remaining teeth has also become loose so I am going to have gaps from three teeth missing. My dentist has said I should have these teeth taken out and have a plate which I do not want. I would like implants apart from the cost, but is it better for me to have implants inserted straight after the teeth get taken out or would it still be possible to have them done in future and have a plate till then, also would implants be possible with the gum disease I have got, I am worried that i have implants and then they do not work because of the gum disease.
