Is £7000 A Reasonable Price For The Treatment I Need?

March 28th, 2015
Q.

I have a failed episiotomy on one of my upper front teeth. The one next to it which is also one of my front teeth has an infection above it too, although I have experienced no pain yet. They are both crowned with metal posts. I have had a CT scan which shows bone loss. To have them both replaced with implants using donated bone, I have to have the posts put in with temporary teeth attached for 6 months, then have permanent teeth attached. I am being charged £7000, does this price sound reasonable?

My Dental Implant Was Infected Almost Immediately. What Should My Dentist Be Doing Next?

February 28th, 2015
Q.

My dental implant was infected almost immediately, and I have had 3 courses of antibiotics over the last 3 months. What should my dentist be doing? I have lost confidence in them as last week I went to have the ‘tooth’ part fitted, only to be told that the infection meant that there was not enough bone and I should come back this week for him to investigate. I have had no x-rays since the implant was first put in. What do you think they should do?

My Mum Has Got Pain In Her Gums. Is There Any Chance Food Could Be Trapped Under Her Implants?

November 27th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Fahey, my mum got implants a few years ago but she is getting pain on the top front teeth (first 6). Her gum line is red and there is a high temperature. What could have resulted in this? Is it dangerous? Does she need to go back to the dentist or does she have to use cream to relieve the pain. As I mentioned she had the implants done probably around 2 years ago. Is it possible for the teeth to have moved out of place, because she is worried whether they have moved and food has gone to the gums and she is scared this might result to an infection. She has had this for about a month. Thank you for taking your time to read my message, I hope you have time to respond. Thank you.

Hi, I Had Implants A Few Years Ago, But Recently I’ve Had A Dull Pain In The Gum, Why Is This?

July 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Bohara, the issue I’d like to discuss with you is that I had a couple of tooth implants fitted about two years back on my lower jaw and they worked fine up until now, as for the last three weeks or so I have noticed that there is a swelling in the gum below the implant and a dull pain in the gum. The tooth implant itself does not ache and I am able to bite normally. There is no reaction to cold or hot fluids and neither is there any bleeding of any sort, so I am at odds to explain what it is that’s wrong. I would really like any information on this and will appreciate advice. Thank you.

I Have An Infected Molar And I Don’t Want Complications. Should I Go With Antibiotics?

July 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hello, I have just had a crowned molar extracted because it got infected for a second time and my dentist said that recurrent infections were highly likely so it should come out. He cleaned the remaining hole but two days later it was infected. So he cleaned it again and put a swab in it with antiseptic on it. It feels like it is getting infected again though not as badly as the first time. I am going to see him tomorrow, two days after the swab went in. Should he give me antibiotics now or just clean it again. I am breastfeeding. I don’t want unnecessary antibiotics but I don’t want complications either. Many thanks in advance for your help.

How Can I Maximise My Implant Success Rate?

April 18th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Bohara I am considering getting a dental implant soon and am doing a little investigation into treatment success rates first. I’m looking for some expert advice on what can go wrong if the implant fails to take and what can I do to maximise my chances of it succeeding? I’ve read a little about infection when they are not fitted properly but would like a concise, professional summary. Hoping you can provide one. Thank you very much.

The Implants I Got Abroad Have Become Infected, What Should I Do?

April 14th, 2014
Q.

A dentist abroad fitted my upper jaw with implants and bone grafts two and a half years ago and in that time I have had constant chronic sore gum at the front of my mouth where the bone grafts were done. When i went back to them they just kept telling me nothing was wrong and there is no problem, I said obviously there is a problem, my gum is constantly seriously sore and my nose is constantly discharging fluid. I went to an oral surgeon and nasal surgeon and in their opinion there is infection where the grafts were done. I contacted the company again and was told they would fix the problem if I paid the final payment I owed of £1500, I said I would pay the money when I was satisfied, but you have left me in constant pain and also they said there was no problem, so how could they fix it. Because this treatment was done in Bratislava, the NHS in the UK will not touch it and neither UK dental surgeons. I need help, this is ruining my life. What should I do?

I’m getting toothache and a strange taste from my crown. What could it be?

November 17th, 2013
Q.

hi doctor,
i recently got a job,but it pays very little and is self-employed,i hardly have any money for dental treatment, and need to go to my dentist because im now getting toothache where my crown is,i hear that it can cost up to £209 for a new crown, which i cant afford, what are my options on low income,is there a way to pay in installments ?
or can i get it done free or cheaper on nhs through my dentist?
i dont know ho long i can go without getting treatment as from past experinces once you start getting a tooth ache it only gets worse and does not go away,it hurts when i eat mainly and bite down on my crown,i had this crown done about 12 years ago,and my dentist tells me he would like to remove it to see whats going on underneath,he also tells me it could be a health risk as theres a gap between my tooth and crown where food and stuff get stuck,i do floss often and use mouthwash, and often there is a strange taste in my mouth coming from that area,so im a bit worried especially now theres a slight pain in that area now.
also a few years ago i had a local anestepic to remove a walt and after i passed out twice,so when/if i have dentist treatment im also worried about the injection and if it will make me pass out again,i have had many injections prior to this but had no problems.
hope you can help and asnwer all these questions from me,
thanks in advance.

If the infection has returned is tooth extraction and the placement of an inevitable?

November 17th, 2013
Q.

I have had a failed root canal treatment. The endodontist removed it and bleached it and then sealed it up again. He said I would need a dental crown, but that I should leave it for a few months as there was a danger the infection would return, in which case I will have wasted my money on the crown. Two months later the thing has started to hurt again, so I’m pretty sure that it has become infected again. Does this mean that tooth extraction is now inevitable? And once the tooth is gone, can I be sure there il be no recurrence of infection?I would like an implant, but not if thre was a cance of infection under it. How long after extraction should n implant be carried ut, if the tooth is infected? Thank you for your time and I hope you can help.

Is it possible to do a bone graft around Bicon implant where there is bone loss?

November 11th, 2013
Q.

i am 32 and a non smoker i had a bi con dental implant on my front tooth 8 years ago during a check up and x rays it was discovered that the bone around the implant was deteriorating due to an infection. The dentist decided that due to the amount of bone loss more than half the implant would have to come out the crown was taken out but the implant remained solid in the remaining bone. Healing can placed on implant. Can new bone be grafted around the implant or does it have to be removed? what are my options ? Thanks
