The Gum Underneath My Implant is Swollen. Why Might This Be?

May 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to read my question. I am a 46 year old female in good health. I had 2 upper implants fitted 6 years ago, and although they’ve been great up to now, the gum underneath one of them is swollen and quite painful. I’m able to eat things without much discomfort and the gum doesn’t appear to be bleeding but I would like to know what’s wrong. I’d really appreciate any advice you may have. Thank you Dr McGovern.

I’m About To Have An Implant Put In. Will It Hurt?

March 15th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr McGovern. I’m about to have an implant put in as I have a missing tooth. I’m pretty scared of dentists and tend to get a bit panicky when I go, so I’m really nervous now!! Will it hurt? I’ve got a low pain threshold so I’m scared it’s really going to hurt me. And will my mouth swell up afterwards? I don’t want that!

If there is swelling and pain around where I have had an implant fitted, does this mean the implant has fallen?

November 6th, 2011
Q.
I’ve just had bone augmentation and a large implant placed that should hold a bridge with 2 teeth on, however 3 weeks on and I have a large swelling and pain above the site which my dentist says is an infection. I feel so miserable about this, I have 2 young children and just feel like all the pain i’ve had from my teeth is taking me away from them. This was supposed to be a straightforward solution but I have lost faith in the process and my dentist. Has my implant failed? I am so miserable. Thank you.,

Could the fact that so many teeth were removed be the reason by my implants failed?

September 15th, 2011
Q.
Hi I had nine teth removed and at the same time they put 2 inplants, the inplants failed, can the cause be because I had to many teeth taken out that same day and they should have waited for the swollen to go down first. Thank you very much,

August 4th, 2011
Q.
I had an implant on the upper jaw on one of my front teeth on Wednesday . I am finding it very difficult to smile at the moment. Is this normal? How long should swelling continue for as it appears it is my lip that is most swollen.,

Is the dental implant causing me pain? Or is it something else?

April 22nd, 2011
Q.
Hi dr, i had an implant 2 weeks ago (upper front tooth) and everything seemed fine. Just recently however my gums have turned very red and are bleeding slightly where i had the implant, they\’re swollen and it\’s very hard to eat anything as it feels as if it has spread around my whole mouth. Is the implant causing this pain? or is it something else do you think?,
