Hi, I Had Implants A Few Years Ago, But Recently I’ve Had A Dull Pain In The Gum, Why Is This?

July 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Bohara, the issue I’d like to discuss with you is that I had a couple of tooth implants fitted about two years back on my lower jaw and they worked fine up until now, as for the last three weeks or so I have noticed that there is a swelling in the gum below the implant and a dull pain in the gum. The tooth implant itself does not ache and I am able to bite normally. There is no reaction to cold or hot fluids and neither is there any bleeding of any sort, so I am at odds to explain what it is that’s wrong. I would really like any information on this and will appreciate advice. Thank you.

Would mild lupus have any effect on dental implants?

January 31st, 2012
Q.
Hi. Could you please tell me how long it takes for the procedure per implant, and is it a painful one? If so, is sedation possible? Also I have mild lupus with no organ involvement and I am not on steroids, should this be problematic to my having this treatment? I appreciate your help.,

Root canal has failed and dentist says tooth extraction is only option. Give your opinion?

December 22nd, 2011
Q.
Due to stress I had a antibiotics to remove an abcess, with temporary filling then root canal after. My tooth felt fine during the months with the temporary filling but after the root canal felt wobbly and intermittently painful. After a year and a half the dentist has told that the next time I say the tooth is painful he will remove it. Obviously I went through the root canal in order to keep the tooth. It is very painful now, I would like a second opinion as I feel my dentist is disinterested and just wants to do what is easiest for him. I am on very low income.,

My dentist has recommended I have my painful tooth removed but I don’t want to. Is there any other option?

September 18th, 2011
Q.
In 1998 I had a root canal procedure on my bottom right back molar.A crown was fitted. 3 years ago I experienced pain underneath this crown and my dentist prescribed antibiotics. 2 more \’pain episodes\’ followed, approx once a year the last one 2 weeks ago.My dentist is of the opinion that the root canal has failed and that to avoid these infections extraction should be considered. I am reluctant but do not wish to possibly keep on taking antibiotics. Any thoughts. I have had the tooth x-rayed now and am due for extraction on 14 December.,

I am still experiencing pain after tooth extractions and the placing of two implant holders. Is there something wrong?

September 15th, 2011
Q.
I am still experiencing continued pain after my first visit to a recognised Dr Dentist after some two weeks. He extracted 4 front teeth, put in two implant holders and assures me there is no infection. He was very rough with me, he did some for me before which were no problem. Haven\’t had more than 3 hours sleep per night due to the pain . Is this acceptable? I have been taking all sorts of antibiotics and pain killers. I just feel that something is wrong but he assures that is not the case. I have to give it time. Do I need a second opinion?,

I am still in pain and very swollen three days after implant treatment. Is there something wrong?

September 4th, 2011
Q.
Hi I have just had two implants placed in UL2 and UR1. UL1 is also missing and they are going to place a bridge. I damaged the teeth in a sporting accident many years ago and I am now getting them replaced. It is the third day after the implants and my mouth is very sore and swollen. I even have a black eye! During the procedure I was constantly feeling it and needed roughly 20 injections! Is this the reason I am so swollen and in a lot of pain? Or could something be wrong? I am also concerned about the interim period before my next appointment in Feb. I am a teacher and obviously need front teeth to do my job. When will I be able to wear the denture that has been made at the moment it feels like never. Also when I have the Uncover procedure there is a further 6-8 weeks before the bridge is placed. How can I wear my denture with the metal posts in place and will the procedure leave me sore and unable to waer it like the first one. This is really worrying me as I cant take that amount of time off! Sorry about the barrage of questions but I am really anxious. Many thanks,

My healthy white tooth was filed down so excessively that veneers will not work and I am on constant pain. Can you help me find a solution?

August 13th, 2011
Q.
I have had a very healthy white tooth filed down so excessively that a veneer will not stay on the remaining small stub of a tooth. I am in constant pain and without a tooth. I am a young female and i have ended up losing my job through the problems it has caused. Originally the dentist said he would only need to take of a millermetre or so to get the veneer to bond, after countless times of it falling out i have but a very painful stub and i cant leave my home. The gum is badly infected and i need a long term solution as the tooth isnt big enough to keep a crown or veneer on it. Plus my bite is like scissors and my bottom teeth hit the top teeth. My teeth were never suitable for a veneer in the first place aparently. I havent biten anything in years and i can sleep at night as my jaw has nowhere to rest in a comfortable position due to my bite not touching at the back. Seeds nuts and sugar are a nightmare as this is when i lose the veneer. Please help me find a solution to this terrible problem this dentist has caused to my life. I am depressed. Thank you,

Would implants be able to help in case where there is internal (or external) resorbtion of the tooth?

August 7th, 2011
Q.
Hi, I have what I think my dentist called an internal or external resorbtion of one of my lower front teeth ( where it dissolves and corrodes from the inside ) I\’ve had it now for over a year and decided to leave it there as it wasn\’t causing any serious pain, just the occasional tingle or slight ache. The last 3 days though it\’s been causing me strong aching pain and is very sensitive to any pressure from eating, biting etc… Is this resorbtion going to cause further problems if left? Like spreading to other teeth or into my jawbone? Will an implant be the best option, as the tooth is dead but just corroding away inside? Is this a common reason for implants and does it pose any problems for implant purposes, or do you just remove the resorbing tooth and replace it? Any advice,
