Q. Hi, I have had x-rays, ct scan and the thickness of my bone measured. I have been told that I should not need a bone graft but he could not say for certain until he opens up the gum, is this true? I thought these tests would prove whether bone grafting is required or not. As when he opens up gum and procedes if he said it is required the the price rises alot.,
A. Unfortunately even with the aid of diagnostic imaging it\’s not possible to be 100% certain. The use of a CT-Scan gives a better indication of the amount of bone available for placing the
dental implants. Regards.

Q. I currently have 2 root canals and my dentist has told me that they need re-route canals doing, or I could have implants/false teeth etc. I\’m unsure of what is best and would like a second opinion. Thank you.,
A. It would be worth coming to the clinic for an x-ray and 2nd opinion regarding all the options as you have various choices which depend greatly on the condition of the teeth and bone

Q. Dear Dr Moore, My wife has been advised that zygoma implants for the upper teeth are advisable owing to progrssive bone loss in the jaw. She matains rigorous gum hygiene but most of her teeth are also replaced by bridgework which are being undermined because of the bone loss. We would like to know if you do offer zygoma implants and if so, some idea of the cost of treatment. We work in Spain but would expect to come over for treatment. Thanks in advance for your help with this enquiry. Yours sincerely, Arjun Sen Mijas, Spain,
A. Hola, I don\’t offer Zygomatic implants a there are often other ways of providing implants without them. If you would like to e mail an x-ray I would be very happy to take a look for you Andrew

Q. i\’ve had an xray to look at replacing 3 teeth bottom left but my main nerve sits quite high and the pin used to secure implants is a set length so i\’ve been told implant stem needs to be short as cutting into that nerve is not good, is there an answer when main nerve so high, thanks,
A. Hi thanks for your question. It\’s correct that there is a nerve that runs through the lower jaw and it\’s very important to avoid placing implants where they may damage this nerve. There are a variety of types of implants that come in differing widths and lengths to make use of available bone. In cases where there perhaps is concern about the location of this nerve a CT scan may be taken which allows a 3D view of the bone and structure and can be used for guided surgery where the implants are virtually placed using the help of computer software which can then be sent to produce a surgical guide. I would ensure that you discuss with the dentist and ensure that you are fully aware of how the treatment will progress. Ask your dentist if they have treated other cases like yours and what the success rate will be. I hope that this helps. Regards George Glover

Q. I visited my dentist about implants but he told me that my bone is not strong enough and that I would be unable to get them. I had dentures but they were horrible and gave me a great problem eating. Is there any help for me?,
A. Hi thanks for your question. It’s difficult to give you a clear answer without a detailed consultation. Generally speaking there needs to be enough bone to support the dental implant, bone can be lost for a number of reasons such as gum disease or when a tooth is lost the bone will naturally remodel. It may be that bone augmentation procedures may be required and would then allow for implants to be placed. The best thing to do would be to have a consultation with a dentist who has experience of complex cases with
dental implants. It’s likely that you’ll need some x-rays and possibly a CT Scan which will allow the dentist to assess the bone levels. I hope that this helps. Regards George Glover

Q. When I was younger I had a root canal that went wrong and my front tooth has to be removed. The dentist did his best to save it but said it was too far gone and that tooth needed to be removed. I am now with a fake tooth that looks and feels horrible and makes me looks stupid. What can I do? Can I get implants?,
A. If the bone is healthy then an implant would be a good solution for you youwill need an assessment and x ray to find out, ask your dentist or if you’re in my area I would be happy to take a look for you
