How much do they cost?
The cost of dental implants varies widely. There tends to be an initial consultation fee which is standard in private practices. This ranges from £50 to £100 or more.
Shop around
UK prices can range from £395 (for standard Titanium dental implants) up to as much as £3,500. Since you’re likely to shop around, you’ll find that prices differ from practice to practice.
"My friends and family have commented upon the difference dental implants have made to my face. I no longer have that ‘sunken in’ look." Tony – Lancs.
Charges
Charges can be based on:
- The dental surgeon’s skills and qualifications
- The clinic’s location
- The brand of dental implants used
- The type of dental implants used: screw post or plain
- Whether a bridge or crown is then applied to the dental implant
- Whether bone grafts are necessary
- Whether gum grafts are necessary
- The aftercare provided
- The number of dental implants needed
Grafts
A gum graft is where gum tissue needs to be increased to surround the ‘tooth’ or crown. The cost for this may be from £350 to £600 per cavity.
A bone graft is where the bone has shrunk so much that extra is required to increase the amount of bone. The cost of this procedure ranges from £350 to £3,500 and depends on the individual.

Treatment overseas
Some people may find that the cost of dental implant surgery is too high. When so many medical procedures, including dental ones, are advertised on the Internet, some people arrange for dental implants to take place overseas. This can be risky.
Admittedly, the savings on dental implants alone, without the crown, travel costs and accommodation can be as great as 80 per cent. However, what happens if you travel to say, Vietnam, for dental implants and something goes wrong? Do you know what legal protection, if any, you may have?
Risks involved
You would need to undertake a considerable amount of personal research to check your surgeon’s qualifications and experience. You should also look at the level of dentistry training and the type of equipment used in that country. Do remember to look into appropriate insurance cover, if possible, for dental treatment overseas.
Travelling overseas to save money on dental treatment is tempting. Please make sure that you have done your own thorough research and know the risks involved.
