Bump remains from abscess but have been told it will go away. Can I still have an implant?

Q. Hello Dr Fahey. Can you please assist. I recently had a tooth extraction done after an infection and an abscess but there is still a bump there which is still yet to be gone away. My dentist has told me that it is bone deformation and that it will go away eventually, but i also wanted to have an implant put in to replace the existing tooth. In your professional opininon, do you think i wlll be able to and if so how long do you think it will take? many thanks for your time.,
A. Hello and thank you for your enquiry. The bump will go, or can be surgically removed when the implant is being placed. You should be able to have an implant, but as you appreciate with out examining you or seeing an x-ray it is impossible to be definitive in this respect. The implants should be placed within 8 weeks for a front tooth or 12-16 weeks for a back tooth. I hope this answer will be of some assistance to you.
