Can I Have Braces With My Dental Implant?

Q.
Hi Dr Fahey. Just a quick question. Is there any way I can have braces with my dental implant? I understand it won’t move that tooth at all but I’m worried that the braces may cause it to come loose or damage the crown which is on top of the implant. Have you known this to happen before? I would just love some general ideas before I visit my dentist for a consultation, so I know what to talk about when when I go to visit him. Thank you for your time in advance and I hope you don’t think this is a stupid question. Thanks!

Hi there, thank you for your question. It’s not a stupid question at all! It shouldn’t cause any problems unless it’s an Invisalign brace. Orthodontic movement is achieved by using relatively gentle forces.
