Can I still have dental implants if my gums have receded?

Q. Dear Dr Moore, I am a 26 year old girl with receding gums. I have really good oral hygiene but I can\’t seem to prevent my teeth from getting cavities or my gums from receding! I have even given up sugar and cut down on drinking. I am petrified that my teeth will fall out as many are heavily filled have a lot of recession around them. I am wondering whether in the event this happens I will still be able to have implants? Also I was told about the possibility of having gum grafts. Would this help?,
A. Gum grafting is used to cover up recession and might be good for you in the long-term. Short term I would look very closely at your diet to see if you are eating/drinking too many acidic or sugery foods.
