Can nervous patients have dental implants?

Q. I understand that dental implants require the use of drills and needles and all that horrible stuff. Do you think that in the near future some of the new laser or pain free technology that is coming into dentistry may make this procedure less scary?
A. Implants are placed under local anaesthetic, so the patient should not feel any pain. Some of my patients wish iv sedation which helps nervous patients.
