I am having my bridge removed, but I cannot have implant for another year, is this normal?

April 19th, 2013
Q.

my bridge needs removing due to bone loss and infection. 2 teeth how soon can i have implants. my dentist has said i will need bone grafts and she will make a two tooth plate which i am reluctant about but that implants will not be an option for a year or so . i was wondering why this was the case. also how long from start to finish can one roughly expect the whole procedure to take? is it painful and can a temporary plate or similar be worn between treatments

Hi. I am 22 years old, and I have 3 missing teeth. One of them really affects my confidence. It’s the upper left 1st bicuspid i believe. I don’t smile properly because when I do, it shows and I really don’t like it. The other two which are missing are the lower left and lower right 2nd molar, which makes chewing on either side quite difficult. I was considering having a bridge, until my dentist told me it might affect the health of the surrounding teeth. Initially, I would like an implant in my upper tooth, but it sounds quite horrific. I get a little anxious with some dental work. I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind: Would I be under general anaesthetic during the implant? How much would it be likely to cost for the 1 tooth? How long do they last? Does all of the implant need replacing, or just the crown/denture that goes over the top. I am considering saving some money to get it done because it really effects my self-esteem. I lost that tooth when I was 17, but only had the root removed last year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you recommend a dental implant over a bridge for replacing a missing tooth?

January 30th, 2013
Q.

I had a root canal filling on one of my back molars (I think it’s tooth number 3) about 10 years ago. It now has bacteria in it and I have been told I can either have the filling replaced or have the tooth extracted. My dentist told me having another root canal filling may not last and I may have to have the tooth extracted in another few years, so I may as well have it out now. What do you think? I am 21 years old. Also, if I do have it extracted, should I opt for a bridge or an implant? I can’t really afford an implant so was going to opt for a bridge, but I have just read that apparently they only last for about 10-15 years and can make the healthy teeth either side painful. So would you recommend I just opt for another root canal filling? It seems like a bridge isn’t a better option after all? I would really appreciate your advice!! Thank you very much.

Hi, quite a few years ago i had a bridge fitted on my bottom 3 front teeth, sme years later it has alot of build up of plauqe around it and the gums have gone down showing the two teeth either side underneath which look black. I have only just been to see my dentist today after not going for a number of years due to fear! He has told me that it has gum disease around it and is swollen but i cannot have this done on the nhs and can only have a replacement bridge done privately costing around £1300 is this right?? i am about to have 6 of my teeth from the front of my mouth taken out and as my doctor is NHS the only treatments available to me are dentures and bridges, but i would really like a long lasting option. are dental implants able to restore 6 teeth and would these be individual? Could you also give me an estimated price for this treatment and how long it would take until I had my new teeth?

I need my teeth replacing but I don’t want dentures. What other options do I have?

August 21st, 2012
Q.

hello Dr Moore

what can you suggest for some one who needs to have all of their teeth replaced, but cannot stand dentures. I did have gum disease, but it has all been cleared up now and i hate the dentures i have been given to wear. They move about and rub my gums and just totally look more hideous than I can really describe. What can you suggest as an alternative to my dentures?

thank you for your time and help and hope to hear back from you soon

How many implants will I need to replace a bridge?

April 16th, 2012
Q.
Hello Doctor
I have a bridge consisting of 4 teeth at the top front of my mouth. Due to root canal work that has not worked I had to have an operation at the maxio-facial clinic 4 years ago. However this has not worked either and the bridge is starting to fail. My options are to have the operation again but my surgeon says this is only 50% sucessful and can accelerate the process. Or to have the teeth replaced by impants. As Only one tooth is missing, how many implants would I have to have, could the other 3 teeth be replaced with crowns? and would the site of the original tooth loss be suitable for an implant as it was areound 40 yers ago.

What can I do about my loose bridge?

April 16th, 2012
Q.
Hello, Doctor. I wonder if you could answer a question for me?
I had eight mini implants to support a top bridge with twelve teeth fitted over four years ago. I have broken two crowns and asked a dentist if its possible to remove my (loose)bridge and replace the crowns,he says its not possible. Is this true ?

Will I be without teeth during the gap between implant placement and placement of new tooth?

March 23rd, 2012
Q.
hello dr nick fahey and thank you and good day and all that. The problem is that my teeth are very very rotten, and i want to replace them all with implants, i have recently heard that you have to remove all the teeth and then drill the implants in and followed then by the caps or crowns etc to go on afterwards, is there a time period between these two procedures as i am unsure. Its just that it would be relatively embarrassing and impractical to go around without any teeth at all!  in between these two procedures to complete the results. Can you also tell mw what is the usual treatment time limit for the procedure discussed doc? thanks for your time ,
