How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?

February 9th, 2015
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I am currently unemployed and am on Jobseeker’s Allowance. How much would it cost for me to have complete dental implants? Are there any discounts available, and can you pay in monthly or weekly installments? Does my existing tooth root need to be removed before starting the implant treatment? Thank you.

I Have A Loose Implant And My Dentist Is Away. Should I Wait For Him To Return Or See Another Dentist Immediately?

February 7th, 2015
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I had an implant fitted 4 years ago and it was fine until recently. However the implant now is very wobbly and I can’t eat or chew anything. Unfortunately my implant dentist is out of town until late next week. Is it okay to wait until he returns or should I see any other dentist immediately?
Please note: I had a routine dental checkup with another dentist last week and there was no problem at all.
Please give me some advice regarding the causes of the loose implant. Thank you.

Can I Have Braces With My Dental Implant?

February 3rd, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Fahey. Just a quick question. Is there any way I can have braces with my dental implant? I understand it won’t move that tooth at all but I’m worried that the braces may cause it to come loose or damage the crown which is on top of the implant. Have you known this to happen before? I would just love some general ideas before I visit my dentist for a consultation, so I know what to talk about when when I go to visit him. Thank you for your time in advance and I hope you don’t think this is a stupid question. Thanks!

There’s A Crack In One Of My Dental Implants. Should I Go Back To My Dentist To Get It Looked At?

February 3rd, 2015
Q.

Hello Dr Fahey, I’m wondering if you can help me. I have two implants that are around a year old. They have been perfect for me up until a couple of days ago. I was eating a boiled sweet and crunched it against one of my implants. At the time I didn’t notice anything but it appears that there is a slight crack in the implant. It hasn’t caused any issues so far, however I don’t want it to in the future. Do you think it will be fine or should I head back to my dentist to get it checked out? What could potentially happen? Look forward to hearing from you, thanks.

I Have A Broken Tooth. Do I Need An Implant Or A Plate?

February 1st, 2015
Q.

I have one broken tooth in the front of my lower jaw, and my dentist has advised me to have an implant. As I have only one tooth to replace, is this something you would advise or would a plate be more suitable? I would like to add that I am 71 years old and a plate would be around £250 rather than £2000 for the single tooth implant. I am not sure what else to tell you about my problem and trust that the information I have given is sufficient for you to advise.
Thanks in advance, Gordon Pettitt.

I’m 48. Am I Able To Have Dentures Fitted At This Age?

February 1st, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr. Fahey. I have gum disease and my current dentist said I can’t have dentures or plates fitted where my missing teeth are. This is a problem as I’m very self-conscious when smiling. My dentist said I’m unable to have existing front teeth taken out to have dentures as I’m only 48. I’m worried that I’ll never be able to smile properly. Will I ever be able to have dentures? I’d be grateful if you could advise me.

I Have Recently Had A Bridge Attached To My Implants And I’ve Developed A Lisp. How Long Will It Take To Go Away?

January 3rd, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Fahey. I have recently had a bridge attached to my implants. I had a denture of four teeth replaced after 40 years. I have an awful lisp and I can’t see it going. I know it will take time for me to get used to the difference of how the teeth feel as opposed to my dentures but at the moment all I can feel is this thick block in my mouth and my tongue feels it has no room in my mouth! How long am I likely to have this lisp and should the bridge feel that thick at the back of it? Thank you for your time, I hope you can help me by offering some advice.

I Am Suffering From Painful Headaches And I Have Gagging Problems. Would I Be Suitable Candidate For Implants?

December 17th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, I have had all my teeth removed from the upper and lower jaws, and as a result of the dentures fitted, I am suffering from painful headaches and have a problem with gagging which leads to me vomiting more often than I would like. I have been trying to use these dentures but it is starting to have a real impact on my health. I have seen on some sites that yes in certain cases implants are available and others that say no but none are specific to any case or one such as mine. Can you advise me on my best course of action please? Thank you.

My Mum Has Severe Dry Mouth Symptoms After Having All-On-4 Implants. Why Has This Happened?

December 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Fahey,

My Mum recently had the 4 dental implant treatment. Initially she was delighted with the results and how great they look but unfortunately she’s now experiencing severe dry mouth symptoms and the implants have begun to discolour. Her dentist has said that it is not due to the implants and that he’s never had a patient to complain about dry mouth before. He had to replace the bottom implants due to the discolouration and it looks like he’s going to do the same with the top set. Could he have damaged a nerve going to the saliva gland during the insertion procedure? I think the lack of Saliva is causing the discolouration but surely he would know this. Any advice on how to proceed?

Regards.

The Taste Of Food Is Impaired By My Dentures, Would I Be A Suitable Candidate For Implants?

December 4th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I am 47 years old and over the last two years have lost a number of upper teeth due to gum disease. I have lost two of my front teeth and one of my main front teeth is extremely loose an am sure it will come out soon, I have a partial denture that is uncomfortable and eating is no longer a pleasure as the taste of my food is impaired and does not feel natural. Can dental implants offer me a better solution and which treatment would suit my problem best and what is the treatment cost estimate? I hope you can help me answer these questions as it would be a great help.
