I Have Recently Been Told That I Would Need Zygomatic Implants At A Cost Of £25000. Is This A Correct Estimate?

November 20th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Moore. I have been recently told by my dentist that I need to have Zygomatic implants because my bones are too week for titanium implants. Can you please tell me what this would normally cost as I have been told that it would be around £25000. As you can appreciate this is a lot of money and I need to be sure. Is this a straight forward operation and what are the after effects of it, including the worst scenario. Thank you and I look forward to your advice regarding this matter.

Does Bone Grafting Work As I Need A New Implant To Replace An Old One?

November 13th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr. Fahey, I am 55 year old male, non-smoker and in good health.
I have a 23 year old front tooth implant which has a small bone loss and is sensitive due to some gum exposure. My dentist says bone and gum grafting will help. But I read that it is either not possible or success rate is non-existant. Is there a rough success rate percentage anywhere I can look before making decision?
I don’t know the make or model of the implant but 23 years ago there were probably only a few around. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Is There Any Help I Can Get From The NHS Toward The Cost Of Implant Treatment? My Dentures Make Me Self Conscious.

November 6th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I have had a full top denture since the age of 17, I am now 53 and my dentist has tried her best to make me a new denture that will fit comfortably without movement. Unfortunately she said this is the last try and it still hasn’t worked. I get very depressed because of this and it makes me feel very conscious when eating out. If I sneeze or cough they just fly out causing much embarrassment unless I stick them in with horrible fixative. My dentist has told me I need dental implants but they are very expensive, I am disabled and I can’t afford the treatment. Is there any help I can get from the NHS towards the cost of the treatment I am desperate?

In The Last Two Weeks I Have Noticed A Spot Where An Infection Is Draining. My Practice Is No Longer In Business What Should I Do?

November 2nd, 2014
Q.

I have an implant on my right front tooth and this has been in place for 8 years. Recently the implant has moved (I have noticed a gap in my teeth which was not there before) although it is not loose. Also in the last 2 weeks I have had a small spot above the tooth which my dentist tells me is where an infection is draining. My dentist has advised me to contact the dentist who did the implant as she is unsure what treatment if any is needed. The practice that fitted the implant is no longer in business so I am a little stuck. I am reluctant to just call any implant specialist as I have had some very bad experiences with dentist which has lead me to have to have an implant in the first place so don’t want to get my fingers burnt again and be presented with a high bill which is unnecessary. Hope you can help.

My New Implants Need Time To Heal But I Can’t Eat Or Drink And My Dentist Isn’t Helpful. Should I Seek A Second Opinion?

October 9th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I had my implants placed around 4 weeks ago. I know you’re supposed to give them at least 6 months to heal but this is impossible. I can’t eat a thing, I can’t open my mouth, my gums are bleeding and my dentist is offering me no advice. He keeps brushing me off and just keeps recommending different pain killers. I don’t feel he’s being very attentive at all. Can you please offer me some advice regarding this matter? Should I seek a second opinion? Thank you.

I Have Little Money For Implants, Why Won’t My Dentist Refer Me? Should I Seek A Second Opinion?

September 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Fahey. My dentist will not refer me to kings college for referral for implants. My dentures make me gag. I can’t really afford to pay but could pay a little towards them. Please help me as I am desperate walking around with no teeth and I feel ashamed and I just cover my mouth up when talking to anyone. When I asked for a referral the first time, I only had a few teeth were missing but my dentist still wouldn’t. Can you have a second opinion when it comes to a dentist? Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

How Long Do I Have To Wait For My Gums To Heal For Implants?

September 18th, 2014
Q.

Hi there. I am considering having two dental implants next to each other in the molar region. Would I be able to have them both done at the same time?

I had a tooth out yesterday and the gums have stitches in. Do I need to wait for it to heal before having implants?

I have been told there are different levels of quality of implants. Is this correct?

I am thinking of going to Poland to have them done so I want to check that the quality of implant is good.

Thanks. I look forward to hearing your advice.

Hi Dr Bohara. Could You Tell Me Whether It’s Possible To Replace My Loose Implant With The Same Implant?

September 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Bohara. Could you tell me whether it’s possible to replace the loose implant with the same implant? It’s early implant failure (1 month) and radiograph shows adequate bone level but only the implant tip is within the bone. I think it is due to inadequate drilling depth and continuous occlusal bite. So I’m in doubt whether I can replace it with the same implant after making it to the desired depth. Please give me a good solution for this problem. Thank you, Dr Kalpesh.

I Like To Travel Around The UK And I Was Wondering If There Would Be Any Complications With Separate Dentists Treating My Implant Surgery?

August 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Bohara. I like to travel a lot and I’m planning a road trip around the UK. It’s going to be a lengthy one! So hey, why not?! Anyway, I’ve been desperate for implants for a while now I have a partial denture in my upper mouth, which I just hate, it’s always falling out. If I had the implants done where I live and carried on travelling would another dentist in the UK be able to carry out the rest of the treatment? Or would I have to stay put in London till then? (Where I am now). Thanks in advance for your advice, I hope you can help me.

How Long Will I Be Able To Start Eating Solids After Having Implant Surgery?

August 7th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I just want to know something that is really bugging me. How long in your opinion, will I have to wait before I can start eating solid food when I get my new implants fitted? I’m going for the procedure in a fortnight from now and I go out for a lot of business lunches, and I don’t really fancy sitting there with some soup and a straw as you can imagine it would start to get quite tiresome. I want to begin eating solids again as soon as possible, so how long, on average, will it take until I can do this? Thank you for your time, I hope you can help me with this matter.
