I still have a baby tooth at 19. Should I have this replaced with a dental implant?

January 5th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I am 19 but still have one of my baby teeth, to the left if my two front teeth, is this because I was born without some adult teeth or because it is still yet to come down? What would you recommend the best solution to this would be? I have before just been advised to keep the baby tooth however, I would really prefer to have an adult size tooth there instead of the baby one. I also seem to be missing the tooth to the right of my two front teeth as there is a slight gap between the teeth there (about half the size of a normal tooth but still not big enough even for a baby tooth to be there), as this gap is not big enough for another tooth to fill it yet is quite noticeable does this mean I again have no adult tooth? Would it be possible to ever fill this gap somehow or would my other teeth have to be moved closer together to get rid of the gap or even further apart in order to fit a new tooth in? If the solution for the baby tooth issue would be to get an implant how much would I be expected to pay? And if there was a solution to the gap problem how much roughly would treatment cost in total? Thanks

Can I have just one implant to replace two missing teeth?

December 28th, 2012
Q.

I am a 65 year old male and have had crowns fitted to both top centre front teeth for the last forty years, with fairly regular failures and re-fits. I have been told by my dentist that future re-crowns would not be possible, he suggested implants. My question is. Could one single implant support my two top centre front teeth? At present both teeth are crowned, but one crown had broken off (made my own temp repair with super glue).
If two adjacent teeth are fixed to on implant, would the implant be central to the gap, and would this be as sound as having two independent implants?
Regards, David

Is my 18 year old daughter able to have the dental implant treatment?

December 22nd, 2012
Q.

my 18 year old daughter needs a single upper left 2 implant, due to a missing tooth. What is the minimum age for her to have this procedure please? She has had the necessary orthodontic treatment and her braces are now removed. Her regular dentist has put a Maryland bridge on to replace the missing toothe but occasionally it pops off (every 2 or 3 months) I would also be interested to know who you would recommend in the Altrincham are to carry out this procedure, and what the approximate cost might be. She has a healthy bone structure and no other dental problems.

My dentist removed more teeth than I expected and now I do not know what to do?

December 22nd, 2012
Q.

As a teenager I was told I needed two teeth removing. Due to my fear of the procedure I have it done under general anaesthetic on the NHS. When I awake I found they’d taken 6 and I had not given consent to do so. My dentist said only 2 needed to be removed and the rest could be saved. Since then I’ve lost another 2 which have just crumbled away. Losing so many teeth has affected my speech and now at 29 I don’t ha d the confidence to talk to people. I don’t have thousands of pounds for implants and I am so angry with the NHS for putting me in this position. What options do I have please? My NHS dentist can’t help.

How long should it take for my jawbone to heal after an accident?

December 20th, 2012
Q.

Hello Doctor,
Before 2 months, I met with a bike accident and lost my three front teeth on the upper jaw and two-front teeth on the lower jaw. I have consulted the dentist; she said that you can opt for bridge treatment for the upper jaw, and you could go for implant for the lower teeths as they are not disturbed (Its not broken or disturbed). I dont know why she asked me to go for bridge treatment (Which I dont like to do) for the upper jaw. In a later consultation, I did ask her why not implant for the upper jaw. She replied, yes you can do. I really dont know in what basis, she said okay. She also said that, if you want to do carry out implant treatment, you want to wait for one year. Because, the jaw bone would take some time to grow. Thats her tentative time for the growth. She doesnt know the exact time of that bone growth. Please advise on the same.

My dentist didn’t fit my implants properly and won’t reimburse the cost. What should I do?

December 16th, 2012
Q.

I had Nobel biocare implants done started haveing problems with them a year later, they became lose, The dentist who did them should have also done the upper jaw, but never did. they took off with £10.000 and on a dental report the implants are not fit for purpose, and needs the correct prescription. I tried to get my money back but no legal firm will take on a private dentist. and those that do show an intrest go after the legal aid then drop the case. I feel we should be able to insure against a dentist cocking up instead of just finishing the job they are paid to do.

I am experiencing normal side-effects of dental implant surgery?

December 10th, 2012
Q.

I had an implant fitted 3 months ago and although It appeared to settle down after 3 doses of antibiotics, Although I still felt my gums and throat sore. I then had my new denture fittedbut could not stand the pain it caused. My tongue felt as if it was being pinched and starting to go numb. The dentist practically had to file the denture down completely on one side. This did help but the other problem I was experinceing was pain at the base of the tooth next to the implant which was like someone hitting a raw nerve when I tried to brush my teeth. The dentist said this was caused by a rogue nerve and took this tooth out also.Tthis resulted in a dry socket which again is very painful . It is starting to get better but my gums and throught still feel sore and I now have a horrible taste of iron in my mouth and it is very dry. Have you heard of these side affects before?

Do implants have to be replaced at any stage and what about cleaning practise?

December 9th, 2012
Q.

Hi,

I am nineteen years old and have recently had an implant fitted but the tooth has not been screwed in just yet and I am still currently wearing a denture.

Through out my journey, I have had around four different dentists, and I’m starting to get a little confused. When I ask them questions, they tend to ignore the question and say you don’t need to worry about that just yet. That makes it worse, and I worry more.

I have quite a few unanswered questions and I’m sorry if you feel bombarded. Firstly, do implants have to be replaced? Secondly, am I able to have braces after the implant has been fitted to correct spacing between the teeth surrounding the implant. Thirdly, will the implant need cleaned at any point?

Thanks
