My 13 Year Old Son Has Had a Tooth Knocked Out. What Shall We Do?

July 2nd, 2015
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. My son is 13 and lost one of his front teeth whilst playing football with his friends. I’ve been looking at our options online and am not sure which treatment would be best. It’s only been 6 days since it happened and he’s very upset. As an image-conscious teen he’s worried about what people will think about him and it’s upsetting for me to see him so unhappy. What do you think the best treatment option would be? Thank you so much.

My Gums are Bleeding Following Implant Treatment, What Should I Do?

June 7th, 2015
Q.

Hello, I’m hoping you can give me some advice. I had my implants put in about 2 months ago and am aware that they take long than this to fully heal, but my mouth is in a lot of pain. It hurts to eat or even open my mouth, and the gums are bleeding quite a lot.My dentist hasn’t been brilliant when it comes to giving me advice on this, all he does is tell me which pain killers to try. What do you think I should do about this?

I Need a Filling But Suffer From Dental Anxiety. What Can Be Done?

May 28th, 2015
Q.

Hi there, I’m 14 and have a massive problem with dental work while conscious. I have needed a filling for over a year but backed out because the process of numbing went wrong and I just couldn’t handle it. I was supposed to get a referral to arrange what could be done but never did. I’m going back to get another referral but what will they do, and what can I do?
I was put completely to sleep when I was younger to have 10 teeth removed which wasn’t so bad, but when I had one awake it sent me crazy! I’m not sure why I can’t cope with being conscious during treatment, but I just can’t and I don’t know what to do.

The Gum Underneath My Implant is Swollen. Why Might This Be?

May 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to read my question. I am a 46 year old female in good health. I had 2 upper implants fitted 6 years ago, and although they’ve been great up to now, the gum underneath one of them is swollen and quite painful. I’m able to eat things without much discomfort and the gum doesn’t appear to be bleeding but I would like to know what’s wrong. I’d really appreciate any advice you may have. Thank you Dr McGovern.

How Soon After Implant Surgery Can I Eat Solid Foods?

May 21st, 2015
Q.

Hello there, my question relates to aftercare following implant surgery. I’m due to have my implant fitted 3 weeks from now, and I’d just like to know how long will it be until I can eat solid foods after treatment. I’m the Managing Director of a marketing company and have a lot of lunch meetings scheduled after my surgery so I need to be able to eat properly as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for your response.

I Had an Infected Molar Removed But the Sockets Keeps Getting Infected. Do I Need Antibiotics?

April 25th, 2015
Q.

Hi, I hope you can be of some help. I have recently had one of my top molars (which had been crowned) removed after getting infected twice, because my dentist said there’s a high risk of it getting infected again and again. He cleaned the hole left by the molar but about a week later it was infected, so I went back and he used an antiseptic to clean it again. I’m due to go back in 5 days because it feels like it’s getting infected again, should I ask for antibiotics this time? Thank you in advance.

My Partial Denture is Uncomfortable. Would Dental Implants Be a Better Solution for Me?

April 11th, 2015
Q.

Hello, I’d like some advice. I’m 57 and due to gum disease I’ve lost a number of teeth around my mouth over the last couple of years. Two teeth at the front have been lost and another at the front is very loose, so it’s only a matter of time before that comes out too. I do wear a partial denture but find it very uncomfortable and I also find it difficult to eat because the denture makes the food taste strange. Could dental implants be a better solution for me, and how much approximately would they cost for my situation?

Am I Suitable for All on 4 Implants?

April 6th, 2015
Q.

Hello, I was wondering if you could offer me some advice. I’m looking into having All on 4 Implants on both my upper and lower jaw. 15 of my teeth need to be removed and at the moment I have a denture of 3 teeth along with 6 natural ones that are in bad condition. I have gum disease and suffer with bone loss. I’ve been advised to travel abroad and I really don’t want to. Are All on 4 Implants an option for me? Thank you.

Can I Get NHS Help With My Dental Problems?

March 29th, 2015
Q.

Hi. I’m 25. I have always had problems with my teeth but I do keep them clean. I suffer from depression and the biggest cause is my teeth. I don’t like to talk in public and couldn’t smile at my wedding. Could the NHS help or pay for implants to give me some kind of confidence? I can’t smile, look at people or laugh. If I could smile I think it would be a massive help with the depression and may even get me off my tablets.

Will The NHS Pay For My Braces?

March 29th, 2015
Q.

Hi, I’m 14, 15 next month and I’m wanting braces. My teeth are not bad, I only have gaps between my top set of teeth (only on the first 4). I’m wanting braces but I’m not sure if the NHS will pay for them or not as it may be classed as cosmetic. If I was to pay for them I was wanting to know how much it would roughly cost, as my teeth are not too bad. Thank you!
