Have you heard of any people having an allergic reaction to dental implants?

Q. Hi could you tell me if you’ve ever heard of allergic reactions with the dental implants? I tend to have a unnatural tendency towards allergies but at the same time i really need a new set of teeth if my worries persisted about implants what else would you recommend? My teeth are pretty crooked and in general ok shape thanks very much,
A. Hi thanks for your question. Dental Implants are made from Titanium which is commonly used throughout healthcare as it is biocompatible with the body. There is however a small percentage of people in the world who are sensitive to the material. Dental Implants are used to replace missing teeth; if your concerns are of a more aesthetic nature and your natural teeth are healthy then there are many other options that may be suitable for you such as orthodontics or smile makeovers. A consultation with a dentist would give you the opportunity to discuss what you would like to change and explore what treatment options may be available to you. Regards George Glover BDS MSc
