How long after root extraction can I get a dental implant?

Q. i have had a root extracted on the front of my mouth now have denture but i want an implant how long before i can have one,
A. Many thanks for your email, the healing time after an extraction is usually 12-16 weeks. however there is an optimum time to place an implant after extractions which is around 8 weeks of healing, the healing cells are already at the site and when an implant is then placed a fast response to the implant is seen and osseointegration can then take place. however if the tooth has been out for a while it is still not a problem to place the implant. hope this is helpful.
