How long before I can smoke after dental implant operation?

Q. How long after the dental implant operation am I unable to smoke?
A. smoking is best avoided before and after surgery, if you must smoke then try and keep it as low as possible

i.e. less than 5/ day
unfortunately if you are still smoking up to one month before surgery, then most surgeons will refuse to guarantee there results
i treat a lot of smokers and whereas we will replace a failed implant FOC in a non smoker, whereas in smokers we charge to replace any failed implants
to put it into perspective though, the difference between success rates between smokers and non smokers has become fairly close with modern implant materials and techniques.
