How long do dental implants normally last?

Q. I am wanting to get a dental implant, but would like to know how long they commonly last. I don’t want to waste a hefty amount of money, only to find that it has been wasted on some dental treatment which is not going to last all that long. Also, do you have any tips on caring for an implant?
A. As a guide an implant should last between 15-20 years if well cared for and checked regularly by your dentist and hygienist. They should be treated and maintained like a normal tooth or crown.
