I suffer from gingivitis and my molar tooth is infected, what do you suggest I do?

Q. I am 65 with long standing gingivitis and now have a large molar which is loose and causing problems with infection. I have several crowns which I have had for approximately 13 years and a molar gap next to the problem tooth. I live in South Devon and do not wish to travel too far. What is your advice please?,
A. Thanks for your question. If your getting infection from a tooth that is loose then this needs to be investigated and treated. If you are having gum problems such as gingivitis or gum disease then this should also be treated as this can cause bone loss surrounding the teeth and ultimately lose the teeth. There are also many studies that show links between gum disease and other health concerns such as heart disease, stroke etc. I\’d arrange a consultation with your dentist to get an overview of your oral health and make a treatment plan that suits your own individual needs.
