I’m 48. Am I Able To Have Dentures Fitted At This Age?

Q.
Hi Dr. Fahey. I have gum disease and my current dentist said I can’t have dentures or plates fitted where my missing teeth are. This is a problem as I’m very self-conscious when smiling. My dentist said I’m unable to have existing front teeth taken out to have dentures as I’m only 48. I’m worried that I’ll never be able to smile properly. Will I ever be able to have dentures? I’d be grateful if you could advise me.
A.
Thank you for your question. We see people all the time who are in the same situation as you. Dentures are always possible, whether you can wear them is another matter. However, with dental implants you can secure the dentures if required.
