Is it better to have implant done as same time as old tooth is extracted?

Q. Is it better to have an implant fitted at the same time as the old tooth is extracted? I am having trouble with a tooth which I had root canal work done on several years ago, my dentist says he cannot do anymore with it and I will need an implant. It is causing me pain now but I cannot afford an implant at the moment. So should I have it extracted and save up to have the implant at a later date or borrow the money now to have it done as soon as the tooth is extracted? Thanks you.,
A. I prefer to remove a tooth and place the implant at the same time but its not always possible. If there is infection present or the bone is unsuitable it might be best to remove the tooth wait 6 months and place the implant at a later date.
