Is it possible to have a general anaesthetic when being operated on?

Q. Hi, I know its not normally done, but i have had general anaesthetic and know plenty about the risks involve, i know i need quite a bit of work done to my teeth but i have had the local anaesthetic before and when the dentist used the drill i couldnt take it. is it possible to have work under GA and if so what are the costs like?,
A. It is not possible to have a general anaesthetic carried out in general dental practice due to the risks involved in this procedure and it must be done in a hospital setting. Unfortunately I cannot give you any indications of costs as this would vary depending on what is being done and by whom. Regards. George Glover BDS MSc
