Is the swelling around dental implant normal?

Q. I had an implant put in just over two weeks ago now, and everything was fine. However, I then developed swelling around the area again and am once again on antibiotics. Would you be able to tell me what will happen if the area around the implant does become infected, and what can be done about it?
A. hi many thanks for your email, this can sometimes happen, a first course of antibiotics would be the best course of treatment and then assess the area 8-10 weeks later to see if the intergration has occured due the the infection present this may mean the integration is jeopardised and the implant may need to be removed and a new implant placed. hope this is helpful.
