How much do dental implant costs, how long do they take and are there finance options available?

March 22nd, 2013
Q.

I have had both of my upper canines missing for several years (due to a genetic trait that prevented the secondary ones from growing in as a child), and I’m considering implants. What are the pricing options as well as the length of time it would take to perform? Would it be possible to perform both implants at once, or will I have to get one side fixed before the other? Also, since the canines are the ones that are missing, will I be able to get the implants in the same shape as a canine? Lastly, are payment plans available, or is everything due immediately after the procedure? What about insurance coverage? Thanks.

My teeth have begun to crumble and I don’t know why, could you please advise?

March 1st, 2013
Q.

My teeth have become week since i had my children the first being 13 years ago and the last of 4 being 3 years ago, but within the last two months my teeth have began to crumble. I am not over weight and run atleast 3 times aweek, we eat at every meal fruit and veg.(mainly friut salad and salad). Although thinking about it we did have two littres of freshly squeezed oranges every day from november to january. could this have had a part in all of a sudden that my teeth have started to crumble? I am 40 but since november have started to have taccicardio and passing out on a daily basis. I was given at the end of feb almarytn 100mg per day my heart is better now and I dont pass out any more. But at the same time that I was given the new tablet it seems that my teeth problems started? brush my teeth 3 or four times aday and use mouth wash and have regular visits to the dentist. Apart from the reason I have outlined in this email I cannot think of anything else that has changed in the last couple of months? I would really like to know what I should do now? I have never had problems when I was younger my teeth were always strong and I have never really had an over sweet tooth and I hardly ever drink fizzy drinks. Thank you very much for looking at my problem and I look forward to your answer.

I have lost a tooth but cannot have implant treatment until 3 months from now, will anymore damage occur?

February 24th, 2013
Q.

I have a question regarding my 2nd front upper tooth. I had a root canal done on this tooth which later discoloured and I chose to have a veneer done to improve its appearance. However, now the tooth broke off at the gumline. I want to get an implant but I’m moving away in three months and have been advised that this is not enough time for implant to heal and so to complete the procedure. In light of this, I’ve been asked to wait until I move to the new location and have the implant put later. I want to double check this will not be a great problem (does bone loss progress signiicantly in three months?). ALso, my job requires me to speak publicly so I need to have some aesthetic interim solution — could you please let me know what the best solution is since I do want an implant at a later stage? Thank you.

Can you advise me on teeth whitening for teeth with broken crowns?

February 24th, 2013
Q.

Dr Fahey
There are 2 parts to my question.
1 Is Zoom 2 Laser whitening safe on teeth, some of which have crowns broken and exposed? What is the difference between it and Kor whitening from USA?
2 I have got 2 estimates for dental work eg one from a non-uk based clinic and the other a London based one. Is there any independent body who could look at my estimates and advise me please? I am elderly with osteoporosis and am delaying bisphosphonate treatment until dental care is complete.

Hi. I am 22 years old, and I have 3 missing teeth. One of them really affects my confidence. It’s the upper left 1st bicuspid i believe. I don’t smile properly because when I do, it shows and I really don’t like it. The other two which are missing are the lower left and lower right 2nd molar, which makes chewing on either side quite difficult. I was considering having a bridge, until my dentist told me it might affect the health of the surrounding teeth. Initially, I would like an implant in my upper tooth, but it sounds quite horrific. I get a little anxious with some dental work. I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind: Would I be under general anaesthetic during the implant? How much would it be likely to cost for the 1 tooth? How long do they last? Does all of the implant need replacing, or just the crown/denture that goes over the top. I am considering saving some money to get it done because it really effects my self-esteem. I lost that tooth when I was 17, but only had the root removed last year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve had composite filler to fill up the gap (still abit of a gap near my gum to keep it clean) but my dentist said i’ll need a fixed bridge or implants in the near future..I’ve heard about the mini implants & prefer the sound of them so far but i’m not sure if i’m the right candidate for them..Please can i email you a picture before my composite filler to see what you suggest please?..I wish i never had the piercing done,my teeth were lovely & straight before this happened, i just want to choose the right procedure for my problem.. please help! Kind regards

Hi Dr Moore I fell over last Monday and have sustained a horizontal crack in 1 of the teeth directly next to my 2 front teeth (not sure of the name sorry). My teeth are perfectly healthy but the crack is horizontal right across the middle of the tooth just on the gum line. My dentist said it needs to be completely removed!!! And recommended having an implant. Is this my only option? Can’t the tooth not be saved?! And if not how soon do I need the procedure? I am due to go on holiday in 2 weeks to Thailand for 3 weeks. Can I leave the procedure of tooth removal and implant till then? Many thanks for your time une reading this. I am massively gutted about the whole incident so any help or advice would be greatly received. Thank you

I need to replace my missing tooth, what are my options and what problems would occur if I just left the gap?

February 5th, 2013
Q.

Dear Doctor, I have had a pre-molar extracted from the right side of my mouth after having root canal treatment which couldn’t save the tooth as it had decayed too much. I now have a gap within my mouth. What ar emy options going forward? I’ve read up about dental implants but don’t know what the cost of having a dental implant for just one tooth would be? Can you provide a rough estimate? Secondly, are there any options for replacing this one tooth other than a dental implant? Finally if I decided to do nothing and lived with the gap will it be detrimental to my other teeth? Regards
