Should I have root from broken incisor removed and get an implant?

Q. My left upper incisor is broken with just the root remaining. I am thinking of having an implant. Should I have the root removed first and then wait a few months before having the implant or is there another solution?,
A. Many thanks for your email. the two options are: 1: have the root out, wait for 6-8 weeks then have the implant placed. This option is generally used if the root has an infection and therefore it would be detrimental to have the implant placed into an infected site as it would increase the risk of failure. 2: have the root taken out and the dental implant placed immediately. a very good solution as long as the site is infection free. it also helps to maintain the gums to a better state this way as there is less shrinkage of the bone. As you can see there are many factors which option is best for you. hope this is helpful. Dr Kailesh Solanki
